Hey all, I'm new to the forums, and am currently shopping for a new laptop. I was recently at the HP website. HP has three different categories for notebooks, and I chose the entertainment line. Under each laptop has specific descriptions of what they offer. Funny enough, I read under the dv6500t that it has an optional HD DVD player. Yet, when I customize this notebook, I don't have the option for an HD DVD player. Has anyone else noticed this? Is this a mistake, or will HP offer these drives in combination with offering NVIDIA's new 8000m series?

    Thanks in advance.

It seems that they don't currently have HD-DVD drives. But they might be available later.Though I personally don't suggest getting an HD-DVD/Blue-ray drive now.I think waiting for it until the prices drop will be a much better choice.

Well that's odd, they might offer the HD-DVD once the dedicated graphics are available which is supposedly mid-June.

besides the drive that theyre offering has slow DVD write speeds, my one is a 4x DVD+/-R writer, if we had customizables here I would never have chosen that over a faster drive

Whether or not an HD-DVD drive will be offered on the dv6500 depends entirely on whether its display is/will be HDCP compliant. If not, the HD-DVD drive will never happen. Coincidentally does anyone know if it is or ever will be?

seriously folks how great can an HD DVD look on a 15.4 screen at the low max resolution these laptops offer. spend the $400 on something else.

Most stuff doesn't have HDCP compliance, but as long as the vendors do not enable the ICT token any VGA, other other analog, or laptop monitor connection should be fine.

You might also consider getting the XBOX 360's USB HD-DVD drive. It works with XP and Vista, and with the right software player you should be good to go for about $250 or $300.
