Hey all. Circuit City just released this new laptop from HP.

    http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/productDetail.do?oid=185878

I ran over the specs, and I like what I see. The only thing that bugs me a bit is the processor, but I think that a Core 2 Duo @ 1.5 will be just fine. What do you guys think? 4 GB of RAM is awesome, and you get a 200GB HD, albeit a 4200RPM, but big nonetheless! Also, Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit and an NVIDIA 8400GS Graphics Card. All in all, I think it's a great package for the price, and I might be getting it for college. I will be doing schoolwork on it, as well as listening to music, and playing games. Do you think this laptop would be considerable for gaming? I want to play Halo 1 and Source games. I might play Oblivion as well, because my friend has a desktop with a 512mb 7300LE graphics card, which isin't that great, and he gets awesome performance on Oblivion, and it doesn't look bad either. Other than that, I will be researching this laptop a bit more, and may end up buying it. If I do, I shall write a review. Thanks in advance.

Hmm...HP's spec sheet for the dv6589us (Link) lists the memory as 2GB while CC says its 4GB. Dont know who is wrong but you should probably check it out in the store before buying.

Since it is a part of the dv6500t series check out the reviews posted to get an idea on its performance.

Don't forget that 4200rpm on today's hard drives aren't as bad as 4200rpm on older ones. Today's technology makes hard drives running at 4200rpm not that bad.

I would love to see someone run a 3DMark06 benchmark on this unit and see what the scores are. I'd also add NVidia appears to have just posted a new driver - "Update: The 162.18 drivers have a working Digital Vibrance function. They must be installed with Device Manager."

The HD is a Toshiba 200GB 4200 - One of the new Perpendicular Drives. I bought an OEM one. I haven't noticed a difference other than a couple of degrees cooler(a good thinkg).
