I am currently looking into purchasing this laptop with:
3rd generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3610QM Processor (2.3 GHz, 6MB L3 Cache)
NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) GT 650M Graphics with 2GB GDDR5 memory [HDMI, VGA]
FREE Upgrade to 8GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
750GB 7200 rpm Hybrid Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
15.6-inch diagonal Full HD Anti-glare LED-backlit Display (1920 x 1080)
For the price it seems you get more than enough to play current games along with decent battery life (6 hours of basic browsing). I play WoW, Diablo III, Counter-Strike:Source (Global Offensive when released). With the specs above, I'm sure it's more than enough power. My question is, how does this laptop deal with heat? When under sufficient load, does the palm rest get hot? If it were on your lap, would it be too hot to handle? I've always been skeptical to buying a laptop that is not a "gaming" laptop because of heat issues. I owned an Asus G73JW a while back and it was great, no heat issues at all, although it was just too bulky for my needs.
Any help on this matter is greatly appreciated. If there is any issues pertaining to this laptop I would love to know!
Thanks!

I have the laptop in question. The 650 runs wow on ultimate at about 50fps and D3 at about 45 fps maxed out. The palm rest does get hot but the pavilion community has come up with the "tape trick" to remedy the issue. You can refer to this thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-...v7t-7xxx-series-ivy-bridge-owners-lounge.html for answers to just about any question you might have about these new systems.

I searched the "tape trick" and couldn't find out what it is. Although, I did find that it is only needed when using a 9 cell not a 6 cell.

It is necessary regardless of which battery you use.
