I currently have a fourth gen dv6tqe. I am not very impressed with the new specs on the new dv6 (especially lack of backlit keyboard). When I send in my current dv6tqe back to HP, will HP give me the option to get a fixed version of the same laptop or would I automatically have to exchange it for the newer model?

HP is not selling the "fixed" version any longer. They can't give you what they don't have. The "fixed" version was out only for a short time until they exhausted their stocks. Perhaps in their next lineup they'll bring back the back-lit keyboard. That's not happening before April 30, the deadline to make your exchange. You may, however, apply the credit for your dv6tqe to any other model that they have.

I was interested in the Envy 17 3D. Would HP allow me to also transfer the $500 coupon to the Envy?

It won't hurt to try. Get someone on the phone and if that person can't do it ask who can and maybe they'll put you in touch with someone with the authority to apply the coupon to the computer of your liking. In the past their own people have suggested talking to a supervisor with more authority to make exceptions to their policies.
