I had a Dv7 3063 that I used for a few months. I didn't have any issues with heat. Was a great laptop, only reason I got rid of it was I wanted something more geared for gaming.

From what I've read the dv* series has a revamped design compared to the dv**** series and has shown less overheating problems. Looks like a nice system and a good price. I would check for a online coupon or if you're a student check with HP's educational academy for another discount. I saved $350 with both of these for my dv4i. Hope this helps you out!

I have a year and a half old HP DV7 but with Core 2 Duo T5900 and 9600M GT and haven't had any overheating issues with it. The AMD CPU will run 5-7C hotter but your GPU will be much cooler.

In January I got a DV6 with AMD Turion II DC M520 - 2.3 Ghz and ATI Mobility Radeon 4650 and the temperatures idle and under load are also in normal range.

CPU idles at 45C and peaks at 70C, GPU idles at 40C and peaks at 78-80C.
I doubt that the one you are looking at will overheat, but I don't think that it is a good deal for that money. I got the DV6 for $650, which has a little better CPU and much better GPU.

I've decided to just wait until I have enough money for the HP Envy 17.
