i really wish i could buy an m17x (sigh)... i was gonna get one by next month but i think i'll wait for the price to come down (gotta pay some bills), hopefully q1 or even q4. til then i was thinking about getting an hp dv7-1245dx. i was wondering if this was a decent gaming lappy for $579 (refurb).

    Specs:
    AMD Turion X2 RM-72
4GB DDR2 up to 8GB (btw idk the chipset but can i upgrade to ddr3?),
ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics RS780M,
1x320GB HDD (up to 2 drives)

I plan on playing mostly CIV4, COD, GTA (especially SA and VC), Oblivion, The Sims. Will that processor be good enough? GPU? Is the GPU upgradable?

    Thanks for any help.

Why do you want to upgrade to DDR3?? It has little to no benefits in normal computing scenarios. For what it's worth, I don't think it will let you upgrade. If I remember correctly 3200 is an integrated part. So no, the GPU isn't upgradable. But the performance should be OK. You should go with Intel in the mobile space. AMD still don't have mobile 45nm parts. See if you can get any other refurbished model. But if you're on a tight budget, the notebook is good.
