    I ordered this on the 7th (and the wait IS unbearable):

    HP Pavilion dv8000t customizable Notebook PC

    * – Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP Home Edition with SP2
    * – Intel(R) Core(TM) Duo processor T2500 (2.0 GHz)
    * – 17.0" WXGA+ Ultra BrightView Widescreen (1440x900)
    * – 128MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7400
    * – 2.0GB DDR2 SDRAM (2x1024MB)
    * – 100 GB 7200 RPM SATA Hard Drive
    * – DVD+/-RW/R & CD-RW Combo w/Double Layer Support
    * – Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network w/Bluetooth

    Are HP estimated shipping dates accurate?

    Has anyone found a review of a similar laptop? Or does anyone have a similar laptop?

    That was the only video card offered. I've never upgraded a laptop before. Is it as easy as a desktop? Can I eventually upgrade this card?

    I'll post a review when it comes in.

    not that i've seen since they've added the core duo variants. good choice BTW. i almost went that route but found mine on the small biz Web site and went that way...

    not too many core duo reviews out there right now. too new to the market. they will start trickling-in over the next couple/few weeks as the reviewers get their hands on them and get some burn-in time with them.

    please do post a review (even an 'informal' one) when you get yours --- it certainly helps others out there looking at that make/model and looking for information...

    congrats on your choice and enjoy it!

    HP actually tends to over estimate on build time. My brother's V2000z shipped 2 days before the estimate, and took about 3-7 days to deliver. Overall, we're satisfied.

    Awww, are there any laptops where that IS possible or in general with laptops is that not possible, because everything about that system seems good but theres less video ram: 128 instead of 256.. is that a huge deal....

    It's very rare to find laptops that have upgradeable graphic cards. Those that do have something called MXM. However, even if they do have such a feature, manufacturers usually would not announce it, and replacement cards would be hard to find. Think about it: When you need better graphics, would manufacturers profit more off of selling a card, or selling a whole new computer? The fact that many notebook components are of a proprietary nature (usually due to the restricted amount of space) means that, more often than not, manufacturers can sell more computers due to obsolete specs.

    ^^The 7400 Go is using Nvidia's MXM setup, so it should be upgradable, but as others have told me, it will depend on other factors such as heat production, power consumption, and size.

    Where does HP say they're using the MXM slot? It'd be very nice if they did use it but I don't think nVidia mandates it.

    HP shipped my laptop in 2 days from China to Michigan. That's pretty darn fast.

    I'd say that it takes on average 2-3 weeks from an order confirmation page for you to get your laptop. Your model is newer (and therefore, probably more in demand) so I'd say you'll get it in 3 weeks.

    HP doesn't, I was looking at Nvidia's website...

    http://www.nvidia.com/page/go_7300_faq.html

    ...check one of the FAQs about half-way down. Maybe not, or maybe? I don't know. The site made it sound like the 7400 will be MXM, but maybe HP has a say in it? :confused:

    Actually it says just asus and other soon for the 7300 doesn't mention the 7400 on there at all yet.. so that gives us some hope. But the fact that it has 128mb of video ram vs there being ones with 256mb of video ram isnt that big of a deal is it, is 128 plenty or is it better to have 256?

    well, what you know now! HP is offering 256MB Graphics Card by default instead 128 :( My shipment delayed yesterday, and just noticed this, so called them if I can upgrade since it's not ready yet anyway but I can't.

    why the heck they had to delay 256mb card!

    That's part of their master plan to make you a shopping.hp.com addict. You always go back there no matter how many laptops you have bought...

    Btw, I just noticed that the 256mb card is actually 128mb dedicated and 128 shared. I'm pretty sure you have it too!

    That really sucks for everyone that went ahead and bought it, I really feel your pain :( (I am waiting some more and looks like I'm glad I did!) But I am happy they went and changed to the 256mb, because that was about all that I didn't like when I was looking at this laptop. :)

    Whats the difference between the normal video ram and "shared" video ram?

    nah, I am feeling better after seeing 128 MB is shared and 128 MB is dedicated. as it's not 256MB Dedicated.

    It's a huge difference since Video Card will have 128MB memory of its own and will share 128MB from system memory. Its not 258MB alone for videocard so very much same thing!

    My build date was also the 17th.

    I've twice called customer service. The first time they told me that the order status pages are only updated once a day (at 6:30pm est).

    The second time I called they said that I would have my laptop within the 5-7 day shipping period from the original build date estimate. Based on information in other HP forums stating that 5-7 business day shipping often takes only two days, my laptop would have to ship no later than Friday, the 24th to arrive by Tuesday the 28th. Of course, this may just be a little too optimistic.

    I must say that I'm not thrilled with my HP shopping experience. I doubt that they will allow me to "extend" payment dates as cavalierly as they extend build dates.

    An official notification of delays:

    "Due to production delays we will be unable to ship your order on the original
    estimated ship date. The revised estimated ship date for your order is 3/23/2006
    or no later than 7 business days from the original estimated ship date. If you
    prefer not to wait you may cancel your order and receive a prompt refund
    by either replying to this email message with your order number or
    calling our toll-free customer service number at 866-288-1610 between
    7:00 A.M. - 2:00 A.M. (ET) Monday through Friday or on Saturday between
    10:00 A.M. and 7:00 P.M. (ET).

    If we do not hear from you before we ship your order, we will assume you
    have agreed to this shipment delay and still want your custom PC order.
    We apologize for any inconvenience this delay may have caused and thank
    you for your patience. Following this email you will receive a HP Home &
    Home Office Store $50 coupon due to the delay of your order."

    That's just great. I've already invested two weeks into this purchase. I need the laptop by the first week of April to work on-site with a client. If they can't guarantee that I'll have the laptop in time to work with my client I need to cancel my order and just go buy one. Seems a shame, as it's a nice laptop.

    I asked to speak with someone else and was eventually told that I can complain at their "contact us" page. I'm going to give that a shot.

    This is really souring me on HP. I hope this is an isolated event.

    existentist, you're not alone, just got the same email. Be comforted in the fact, though, that my email doesn't even give me an ETA! Mine says 10 days from the original ship date, which is at least 3/27, or "as soon as it is built". :/

    I'm gonna patiently wait I guess. At least I can afford a spare battery now w/ the $50 coupon...

    Awww shucks, I just CALLED IN my order. The sales representative was actually very good... and I train employees on customer service! :) However, I am sure that customer service won't help my dv8000t's build and ship times... Although it did give the phone sales department a star in my book. LOL!

    Well, the wait begins... Trudging along with you all...

    Finally I see a Tracking Number :D

    Regarding long wait for recent orders, its worth waiting for, it sucks but its worth it. I waited about 3 months! First I had ordered zd8000 and received in january than sent it back and re ordered waited again and received it in feb. sent back - Wireless Card 54G wasn't working with our network (only on these 2 laptops) in first and 2nd both, no one figuter out why including hp. So Finally I wanted Intel Wireless card and got it in dv8000. I am the guy who uses computer as long as I am up and not sleeping and use it for averge of 15 hours a Day since last 5 years so it was tought but when I retunred 2 times, I experienced good service and computer quality was better than other I tried, so just wanted to wait it out!

    I'm sorely tempted to cancel and to order something else; but this is a **** good system. I'll hold off on cancelling it until the last weekend of this month.

    I hope it's worth it.

    Plus I just found out that with an education discount, I get 6% off. That and the coupon should help.

    However, I was a bit put off by the customer service. They did not seem to be sincere..."there's nothing we can do." Meh.

    I'll let you if it ships on the 23rd.

    Yeah, you are confused, SDRAM and SODIMM arent the same. SODIMM is the memory outline or format used in laptops. In desktops they are just called as DIMM's. SDRAM is just synchronous dynamic random access memory which is capable of syncing with the bus speed. This is used in almost all memory no matter whether they are used in desktops or laptops.

    The dv8000t uses 200 pin DDR2 533/667MHz SODIMM and you shouldnt have any problem running either of these.

    Ah, it has finally shipped.

    Original Date: 17th
    Actual Date: 23rd

    Anyone have an idea of how long it takes to get through customs?

    I ordered a DV800T on 3/9 and the estimated ship date I was given was 3/28 but I received a notice this morning from HP that it has just shipped--five days early! I went with the 2-day delivery so I hope to see it on Monday.

    I went with the higher resolution screen instead of the Ultra bright and I hope I made the right choice. I'm disappointed that they don't offer two 120GB drives with the Core Duo, only 100GB's. They do offer the bigger drives with the AMD CPU, so why not this one? Here's what I ordered:

    - HP Pavilion dv8000t CTO NB
    - Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP Professional with SP2
    - Intel(R) Core(TM) Duo processor T2500 (2.0 GHz)
    - 17.0" WSXGA+ BrightView Wide Viewing (1680x1050)
    - 128MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7400
    - 2.0GB DDR2 SDRAM (2x1024MB)
    - 200 GB 5400 RPM SATA Dual Hard Drive (100 GB x 2)
    - LightScribe 8x DVD+/-RW&CD-RW Combo w/Double Layer
    - Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network w/Bluetooth
    - 8 Cell Lithium Ion Battery

    I've never had a high-end notebook before; this will be my first. I've always used Dell Inspirons.

    Quick question, the laptop tracking number has 12 digits, while the other tracking numbers have had 15. Is a 12 digit laptop tracking number common, or will I see a new number after the lappy clears customs?

    Guys, I got mine yesterday. I have the XP Media Center SP2. The NVidia graphics driver seems to be having some problems -- I was running HP's diagnostics software, and it crashed when it came to the Graphics Card diagnostics. Anyone had a similar problem?
