I was wondering without taking apart my notebook could I upgrade my CPU to the new Core Duo 2 chips with this laptop?

    Thanks

Yes it is possible. I'm not sure about the specifics...you would need a BIOS update.

After looking on the HP website, it says that your notebook can support Core 2 Duo. However, you may need to upgrade thw BIOS, before you can install. Otherwise, the motherboard may not recognise the processor.

By the way, by replacing the processor, it will viod your warranty. If you want a pefoermance boost, them most of the time, an upgrade in RAM will help. However, if you are using processor intensive applications or a processor intensive task, like encoding MP3's, then a processor upgrade will help. Hope this helps.

Ok, so you're sure the laptop has a zif socket unlike some where I read it was soldered into the MB. And Number two other than HP where could I get a BIOS update? Thanks again.

To double check if the CPU is a zif socketed one, download and run CPU-z. If the package type (on the first tab for the program) says something like 478-mPGA (or 479-mPGA...however many pins these darn processors have), then you're fine.
