Hi! Help please! I am a newbie, so thank you in advance for any help you can give me. I am not sure if this was the cause, but here is the story... About a month ago, I played a MahJongg Master 3 game. After I inserted the disk it said something about running 256 color resolution and something about 3D. I had just come home from surgery, kind of out of it on meds, so did not pay particular attention, but am pretty sure I clicked "Ok" for the 256 color resolution and no for whatever it was asking me about the 3D. My husband called for dinner, I "x"ed out and all of a sudden this wave came over the screen and the color all went funny. After that you could read e-mail, but video and some pictures were ghostly (also, there were lines on the top and bottom tool bars and the log in page was purple with a big round splat of color to the left--colors were off, fluorescent-like). I called HP support and they had me remove and reinstall NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600. I did (I believe successfully), but it did not solve the problem. We had the computer looked at and the tech said it worked fine on an external monitor, so ordered a new display. We got the computer back on Friday and yesterday and today the display went off once each day. I panicked and turned it off and each time it came on okay. My questons are: 1. The computer came with NVIDIA GeForce Go 7400 and upgraded to 7600, I believe, during that game I played with the inserted disk. Could this be a problem with Windows XP? 2. Could it be a heat factor? Yesterday was extremely warm in the house and the laptop was on the table when it happened. I cooled it off, but today it is on a portable laptop table in air-conditioning and it just happened a few minutes ago. 3. I turned the digital vibrance to off, could it "being on" be a factor? Any help would be greatly appreciated, as my husband and I are at loose ends. Oh, and both times, no games were being played. Yesterday a video was going and today it was while I was reading an e-mail. Lisa

Im pretty sure from the sounds of this your color settings are messed up. try right clicking your desktop going to properties and change it to 64 bit color. Also there is no way your laptop could have been upgraded from a 7400 go to 7600 go so the hp person probaly had you install incorrect drivers according to hp http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...=c00690936&dlc=en&lc=en&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN you have a 7400 go so you need to go to http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=228&lc=en&cc=us&lang=en&dlc=en&product=3192912 and download the go 7400 drivers it should be fine. Also i dont belive this is a a heat issue i know my brother has a dv8230us that we got off ebay and it didnt have that much dust in it for a 1.5 year old laptop. Hope this helps

Thank you so much for your response. My husband sees that the download you gave us is the same the HP tech did give us. I tried to change my color, but I only have a choice of 16 or 32 bit. Should these be the only choices on my computer? How does your brother like his? This is just so frustrating as it seems as if it may be a setting problem, but it does work perfectly on an external monitor without changing anything. Any other advice you might have would be greatly appreciated. Lisa
