In December of 06', I got my HP Pavilion dv9000. It was working great, but after maybe a year or so, the volume and mute buttons on the touch-sensitive bar started to have some problems. What happened was that the blue light for the volume buttons went out, but still worked. I was ok with that until it started going off randomly making that extremely annoying noise over and over again. It automatically just goes down to no volume when it happens, and when I try to put it up, it just goes back down for at least 10 minutes, with that annoying noise constantly beeping. Sometimes, the mute will even go on, but then eventually turn red, then a purple color and not work.

I'm not too great with computers, so any ideas on what I should do?

I assume that you bought it with the standard 1-year warranty only. You...

    1) should reinstall the media button drivers. Make sure to restart your computer after removing the driver.

    2) Or you could take the laptop apart and make sure that the media controls are properly connected to the motherboard, but if you're not comfortable with that, then...

    3) You could ask a friend more knowledgeable with computers to take a look at it for you.

Try what bog said, we need to rule out a software side issue first before going to the hardware.

The QuickLaunch buttons cable probably just need to be reseated or replace.

Refer to your service manual, its quite easy to do.

Well so far, the volume buttons are working normally, but the light hasn't turned on, so right now I'm getting a friend to look to see if everythings completely connected.
