    Greetings,

I am buying my first new laptop in years and would like to know what everyone thinks about the dv9207us model. I bought it last week from CompUSA but haven't opened it yet because I want to make sure that I made a good decision. After scouring the web I found that some people complain that the keyboard design is screwy and that it produces too much heat. Does anyone here own this model and if so what are your experiences

    Thanks in Advance.

I bought one last week and so far so good. I wiped harddrive and did clean install of windows vista and it works great.

I also upgraded ram to 2 gb.

At $800 it was a great deal as far as i'm concerned.

I bought one for my cousin and had a chance of playing around with it before passing on it on to her and she's loving it. It's a great notebook at that price, both rebates were mailed in about 5 weeks. Had no problems with the keyboard, seems like they had fixed that issue and it feels much better than my dell. The significant heat that is emitted is from the right side corner at the back that's where the main fan and vent are situated. It wasn't that hot that it bothered me when I was using it on my lap. As suggested by Crayco, you might want to bump up the ram and/or use readyboost to get a better performance out of your notebook. I did not do a clean install for her and she has since made the machine dual bootable in vista and xp so she could play her online games that currently does not support vista os

    Stupid question.

Can this laptop be upgraded in any way for future growth? Reason being is that I hardly ever buy anything and this is a huge purchase for me. I currently use a Inspiron 3800 for most everything and I want this laptop to last me a while.

Can it be upgraded to a Core 2 Duo in the future? Can the GPU be upgraded? Etc?

Yuo can upgrade the hard drive and memory.
I'm not sure about CPU and GPU,

Depend on what you do, if you are not a serious gamer, I think this computer will fit you very nice. I Own 2 Hp computers, a DV8000 and a Dv9500, they are very simiar with your version, I don't have any Problem with the keyboard. I personally like the keyboard very much.
Heat is a problem if you are running some intensive program for a long period of time, My dv8000 gets really hot when I play world of warcraft for over 3 hours, but I don't think it's going to be a big problem when you can get a cooling pad, which cost around 20-30 dollars.

    It's a great deal!

Is heat a damaging problem or just an annoying problem? Is the heat bad enough to cause damage to the unit or simply an annoyance.

It will not damaging your laptop as long as you don't run some graphic intensive program (like a decent game) for a very long period, 6 or 7 hours. Most computer will get damaged this way.

    just get a cooling pad.
    here's also a great guide:
