    this notebook has Microsoft office which I have no use for; can't see ever using it; can this be removed from the system without a problem, or does it have to stay there?? and if it is removed will it free up a lot of disc space or memory or whatever??

    You can remove it without any problems and yes it will free up HD space and memory.

    If you're not gonna use it, then yes, you should remove it from the notebook. It'll definetely free up a lot of space.
