Good day all, I wanted to make this quick post.
I recently purchased a new HP dv9858ca / Vista 64 bit with the Intel 4965AGN wireless adapter. Like many other users on the net, I had experienced an incredible slowness in regards to network related activity. I initially thought is was Vista related and started to tweak the TCP Stack .. wrong !!!
One of the posts in this site led me to believe that it was the relationship between the 4965AGN and my Linksys WRT54G router. BINGO !
By the way I run the DD-WRT firmware on my router v23.
1st - I connected the new laptop to the router directly with a hardwire. I received my full download speed of 10M on my cable router - so I knew it could not be the TCP stack.
2 - I disabled afterburner and burst mode on the Wireless setting along with STP disabled on the basic setup screen.
Once I did that, 1 - the new laptop connected easier to the router and I started to get speeds of 3-5Mbit !!!! NOT BAD .. a heck of a lot better than 600-900k on the internet and DOG slow file transfer between wireless computers on the net.

I took it one step further, I installed DD-WRT v24Beta 08/15/07 on the router just to see if it did anything .. boy am I glad I did.

My new HP laptop along with my other wireless devices are smoking at the maximum 10Mbit speed on my cable connection to the net !!! - file transfer between wireless machines are smoking fast.

Again, this post is to say thank you to all of the other contributers on this forum and others on the web. It made me look in the right direction to find my problem. It made me think to try a couple of other changes just to see if I can make things a bit better.

Once again, thanks for all your thoughts and posts.
I hope that this entry with my subject line finds its way on the various search engines to help others.

One very happy user. Email me via this forum and I will do what I can to help out others

By the way, I really do recommend the dd-wrt firmware for the Linksys WRT54G family of routers, including new firmware for other manufactures of routers.
    Their firmware rocks ! - http://www.dd-wrt.com

    Thanks again.
    John :)

exact same router and wireless card as me :)

DD-WRT is definately the best firmware out. I installed it about a month ago and never looked back. rock stable!
