Is there a way to enable fixed mode switchable graphics on the g6s? Dynamic switching does not work at all for me.

Take a look at the driver page for your laptop on HP's site. Find the BIOS update and apply it.

Idk the details of your laptop so I can't give the exact BIOS update that allows you to use fixed mode.

If I had to guess, I'd go with this one though: HP Notebook System BIOS Update (Intel Processors) HP Pavilion g6t-1b00 CTO Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English) This is the one for intel processors, so make sure thats what you have.

Assuming its the one for that laptop of yours, it will allow you to change from dynamic to fixed mode in the BIOS.

Thanks for the link. I installed the update, but there is still no fixed mode option.

I noticed that the description for it was "Provides the updated AMD Raden HD 6470M VBIOS," but the updates for the other models specifically mentioned fixed graphics.

Am I the only one in the world that got the optional ATI card installed in this notebook? There is a 100+ page thread about an identical problem with the dv6/dv7 series, but there is no information at all on the web about the g6 :(

HP's support and forums are nearly useless.
