We are looking for new gaming notebooks and as my wife and I were her old Asus G72GX died. So we ran out to look for something to hold us over while I decide on our new notebooks. So at Best Buy we found the Pavilion m6-1035dx on sale.

I knew AMD Vision chips were really solid little performers for cheap and for $599 this HP (I am a huge HP hater) kind of kicks . Earlier tonight I was running 2 EQ2 accounts at once on this and this thing ran the dual log-ins like a champ. The 6gigs of RAM leaves alot to be desired but its enough for what will end up our daughters computer.

Anyone thinking of getting a cheap laptop that can do some gaming should really look into these Vision A10-4600M chips.. You can build some on the HP Direct site and Toshibas (Im sure some other sites too)

I ended up putting in 16gb of ram for $100, also bestbuy had a sale last week and dropped it to $579, i went back and use their price guarantee and got $75 back. If you are interested in the 16gb of ram for $100 it is here, it actually looks like newegg dropped the price!

Nice price dude, I've had to pay around $630 and still considered as a good deal. What difference makes that so plenty of memory, can it be faster than already it is?

Thanks for the ram link.. I get confused with all the options there in Newegg and usually just give up. I would think then 1600mhz ram would make a difference.

I didnt even look but at the point of sale last week Best Buy only charged me the $579.. this is a hell of a laptop for the price and only think with the RAM change and a SSD or Hybrid it would really be a solid little performer.. I tested out Rift and pretty much have it on max graphics and the game runs fine! the video card does get hot as does the area to the left of the track pad.. but i have the rear of my laptop propped up.

Ive been telling my friends about this and they think I am crazy on how its able to perform at its price point with no dedicated GFX card.

    Hey Ianas,

When you checked your WEI, how much modification did you make to the machine?
Was your Windows up to date?

Reason for asking is because I have the 7660G+7670M variant of this machine, but my GPU is scoring lower than your 7660G.

    Thanks.

Anyone have any idea how to open the Wifi card access panel in the back?

I can't slide it / pull it out even with the battery lock off.

Anyone that can confirm whether or not this model uses the same optical caddy as the dv6?
I was thinking of adding a SSD, but unsure of which caddy I should get.

Anyone have a quality review of the a10 vs a8? Thinking about picking up the V3-551-8887 from BB since it about $150 less with the a8. Wondering if that Difference between the two is worth $150.

interesting....yah the stock wifi card kinda blows....im using a Rosewell usb wifi card...RNX-N150UBE and it works great! but would be nice not to have it taking up a usb port.

did you wifi performance get alot better vs stock wifi card?

how about if wifi signal is far away? did signal get better?

It would indeed, but I find it difficult to track down a caddy made specifically for this laptop and I'm quite reluctant to order a drive that might not work.

    Hello,

I've bought this laptop primarily to use it for watching shows and movies outside of normal business and personal use. I am a novice when it comes to making repairs but I've recently stepped on my computer and just fractured the screen enough to blur the image. I've removed the screen, which you were correct was a pain to remove. The top had tape and the bottom was glued to the frame. Otherwise the screen was easy to remove. IMAG0535.jpg IMAG0532.jpg

Now I am wondering where I can get a replacement. I did see a website called LAPTOP SCREEN, LCD panels from $42. Dell, HP Compaq, Toshiba, Acer, IBM Lenovo, Sony, Gateway, Apple, Asus replacement screen display panel. Not sure if there is a better way to order. Also, I am wondering if I will need to glue and tape the sections again at top and bottom. Any help would be appreciated.

I was so late to the AMD party, i bought a Llano A8-3520 as a budget machine, knowing what I wanted in terms to power but not knowing the true specifics of the different mobos (Sandy, Ivy, Trinity, etc)

I was bummed for a while when I finally knew better and could have got a Trinity machine for basically the same price I paid for the Llano (around $500)

    until i started overclocking.....

    and then i read this...

    it is cool :D

kinda sucks its difficult for you to find a caddy. i would youtube it, thats how i found the size of my optical caddy... a 12.5" sata.

after that, it was easy to order the part from ebay and install a SSD as a main/OS drive and have the old HDD as a secondary media drive.

as hannah montana would put it...

the best of both worlds. :D

Nothing special, I just took a chance, because it is an RSA signed bios there is no possibility, at this time, to remove the whitelist. So i bought the card hoping it would work and it did. Make sure that you download and install the drivers first it will save you some time. Also the second antenna is a pita to connect.

In my house it is kinda hard to tell, simply because I am very close to the router, it is right above where i usually use the laptop. the biggest difference is having a 5ghz connection, 2.4 is so crowded in my home.

Solution found, leaving it here for someone else, if needed.
I installed the latest amd video driver from amd's site. but the display driver from HP's site bundles the sm bus and the usb 3 drivers inside it. (it does NOT say this anywhere on HP's site).
Download it and run it, the installation steps show which drivers are bundled inside.

I'm looking at buying this laptop refurbished for $450. Good deal? And is it worth upgrading the ram to 8gb maybe 12gb? Would that have much effect on gaming graphics performance?

Hi guys... I just bought this m6-1035dx for seriously under $400 refurbished. They even included 6gb of 12800S. I keep reading that it supports 12800 @ 16gb but I can't seem to get it to work... This is the ram I bought:

    <iframe src="http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?lt1=_blank&bc1=000000&IS2=1&bg1=FFFFFF&fc1=000000&lc1=0000FF&t=myfacpag0a7-20&o=1&p=8&l=as4&m=amazon&f=ifr&ref=ss_til&asins=1572228342" style='width:120px;height:240px;' scrolling="no" marginwidth='0' marginheight="0" frameborder='0'></iframe>

Does anyone see what I might be doing wrong???

    Thanks!

well if you're still around after a year, i actually have a m6-1035dx running on 16gb, and it runs on 1.5v, i bought another one but after a ram test i found out that it was faulty, make sure you do a memtest, if you get errors then its bad ram, because i also did it with a friends pc that also supports pc3-12800, so yeah, the ram im using is the hyper x which can be found here , even though it has its own heats sinks that might be big, they still fit and works fine as for upgrading your cpu, that might not work, i got the a10-5750m and after trying to get the damn thing to work, it didnt, it may have to do with ram running at 1.5 (btw the supported ram is 1.35) BIOS or chiptset, but idk and gave up on it and the new processors being realeased are all soldered and it looks with AMD has moved to soldered laptops. So yeah good luck
