Hey
SORRY, misleading title, the actual model number is ZD8000
My friends HP computer basically just melted in parts due to the massive heat generated.
I know the Pavilion ZD8000 is quite an infamous machine for overheating but is this common throughout the HP line?
I thought I should also mention he is very good with computers and cleans them regularly.

Yes it's common. The Nvidia GPU probably died. Search for "HP nvidia GPU fault".
Sorry to hear about the dead notebook. -
I'm the first person to blame nVidia, but the ZD8000 was before the GPU meltdown era (and I believe it used ATi graphics, IIRC). The P4 really doesn't help keep things cool.

MGS2392 is correct, the ZD8000 series used ATI graphics (Video Graphics ATI MOBILITY RADEON X600)
HP Pavilion zd8000 pretty much melted.
