I'm not getting the speed I should be getting from the USB 2.0 ports on my laptop. It's clearly in USB2.0 as the sustained rate is clearly above the limits of USB1.1, but the transfer rate tops out at ~8MB/s, this is using a 3.5" external hard drive that easily gets 25-30MB/s on my desktop. Anyone got an idea?
I found some complaints about the USB ports on ATI Xpress 200M chipset not being "fully" USB2.0 compliant in this thread and this is what I suspect but I'd to know what kind of MB/s you're getting from USB port on your ze2308wm or any HP/Compaq laptop with the Radeon 200M chipset.

Any software to detect the speed?

The Hitachi internal i just installed now gets 32MB/s avg inside the laptop.
When I had it hooked up to USB port w/ an enclosure 8MB/s.
Another external drive that gets 25MB/s on a desktop PC as an external gets 8MB/s on this laptop.

The same here: 7.8mb/s average speed. Sucks but there's nothing we can do about it
