I have a HP Pavilion zv5000 laptop that all of the sudden goes into hibernation on me. When it restarts it has error message indicating that the computer should be plugged in - but it is always plugged in. I don't use it on the battery except on rare occassion.
The blue charge light is on at times, not at other times, sometimes blinking. I don't see any pattern in the problem.
ANy one have any thoughts.

The power jack is probably in the process of breaking. That was a very common problem in the zv5000 series.

It happened frequently on my ZV5000. You have to wiggle the plug until the laptop recognizes the power supply. I actually used a cork to prop up the power cord plug behind the laptop so the internal jack would be angled down towards the board. That fixed it for me when I used a hard surface (i.e., desk).

I had a DV5000 that started not recognizing the power plug. At first, it would sometimes charge, sometimes not charge when plugged in. Then, it stopped accepting AC power all together. My guess was the power jack fried. Eventually, the laptop died. The whole process took about 2 weeks. I'd start backing up data just in case (I was really sorry when I didn't do that with my dead DV5000.)
