There seems to be a power problem with my zx5000. I noticed often while playing games the battery would go down while the supply was still plugged in. If it would go low, I would take a break. Recently, however, the computer would only stay charged for around 10 minutes while plugged in. Now, it does not power up at all. It acts like the battery has run out of power and the chord is not in at all. The adaptor will not charge it, either. Occasionally, the "lightning bolt" will flash for a few seconds, but the computer never turns on. HP assured me it was the adaptor, which I thought as well, but a new adaptor has not corrected the problem. This is similar to another post, but no solution was posted. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

the battery could be defective, have u tried keeping the system plugged in without the battery?
-
I don't think it will run either way without a battery in????? But, without it in, no, it doesnt do anything. IT does even less, the blue charging light doesnt even flash for the second it usually does...

Normally these notebooks can run without the battery in. If yours can't run without the battery I would supect its the power unit inside the Notebook.

it could also be a motherboard problem hmm seems weired.

Funny side note, I have the zx5000 and the Presario R3000, which is what all the posters had...
And right now, both dont work right or at all...

Knock on wood my zx5000 has been flawless.

I had to send mine back to HP for this problem on my zx5000, the power connector on the laptop was bad. I had to giggle the conector around to the exact right spot to get it to charge. This is also why I keep my monitor darker on battery, not only does it extend my battery time, but it lets me know the second it switches from power to battery.

I've had the same problem with the power. I've had to jiggle it to get it to charge. I'm sending mine back and getting a new one. Hopefully it won't have the same problem.

Hi there, I'm having a similar problem with my HP Pavilion zv5000. Simply when I turn it on, uses battery ONLY; after two hours is completely dead, and I have to re-charge it again! Little help from HP Support under Warranty!!!!!!!!

Hi, i have a hpzx5000 laptop: they are a beautiful machine. When i got mine, i had the same problem. Mine was the power adaptor. I was supplied with a third party adaptor with the incorrrect voltage, the dealer sent me a newy and it has been fine from a power point of you since. Mind you, now the lcd is cracked but im not gonna give up on her lol, but thats another story....

I've read on other forums about the problem with the power adaptor plug breaking from use. You would have to be careful when plugging it into the laptop and making sure it seats firmly.
-
I also had problems with my zx5000 not charging correctly with a third party adaptor. Again, it was incorrect voltage.
Also, have you flashed your bios to the newest one? I believe it was f.45. That was supposed to solve the problem of the laptop not charging fully after the battery was discharged to 0%. Before I flashed my bios, the battery indicator in Windows would say 100% and the blue lightning bolt on the laptop would be off. But around 40-50% charge, the laptop would shut off because the battery was actually at 0%.
After the bios flash, it works as it should and the battery % indicator shows the correct charge. -
If I wiggle the ac connection, this does not cause any problems at all. If there is a loose connection, it is INSIDE the notebook.
Now what about this bios flash? Where do I get it and how do I do it? -
I have a HP zx5000 that has power problems as well.
I have tried different power supplies, 3rd party.
A different battery, reset power managment, ....nada.
The laptop only works when plugged into a factory HP power supply. And shuts down when you unplug it.
HP support was no help.
I have just tried the F.45 Bios described above and did not help.
I will now try one more battery, then never buy an HP product again. -
Here is the page that has the F.45 BIOS:
