I bought a zx5280us in 2004 and it came with a glossy 1280x800 screen. This screen absolutely BLOWS AWAY my brother's several months old dv6000t which also has a glossy 1280x800 screen. The viewing angles are almost 180 degrees and the quality of the screen is excellent...like a damn pastel painting! However, on my bro's dv6000t, the viewing angles are no where near the zx5280us and has a very hazy look to it.

How come the quality of screens is going down by so much?

the company that manufactures the screens can vary depending on the laptop.
the manufacturer even varies between different laptops of the same model line (ie. dv9500)
