Hi, I bought my laptop (HP DV6-3122TX) about 15 months ago. For the last few months, I have been facing the following problems while on battery:

    • First, after running for about an hour on battery, the laptop suddenly shuts down without any warning messages. When I turn on the laptop again, it shows almost 40% battery life remaining (sometimes even more).
    • Second, the laptop becomes really slow when it is on battery, the CPU usage goes very high (around 80-90%). This happens even if I am only browsing.

Furthermore, the left palm-rest becomes too hot when the laptop runs for a few hours.

I haven't been able to figure out whether this is a software or a hardware problem. My guess is that the HDD (720 RPM) causes the heat. And I do not use a laptop cooler.

Should I change the battery? Or just using a cooler would solve the issue? If anybody has this sort of experience please help.
