Im stuck between getting an acer 1810tz or the DM1, the DM1 is actually a bit better with its DDR3 and bluetooth, its possible i can get it for cheaper as well.

However the inspiron 11z looks great too but the reviews say that sucks with its horrible touchpad and only 1 ram slot etc, i cant find any reviews of the DM1 anywhere, is it a good laptop? Better than the 1810tz?

I'm confused, is the dm1 on sale now? I havnt seen anything with it being released. Hp hasn't said much about the laptop.

Its on amazon uk, theres two varients, this is the cheaper one. The more expensive one has an SU4100, 320gb hdd instead of 250 and a dvd drive.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pavilion-dm...5?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1255995905&sr=8-5

    £449

    Also on play.com.

    http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/12096...me-Premium-64Bit-Laptop-Notebook/Product.html

    £449

Its also on the HP website:
    http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/uk/en/ho/WF25a/321957-321957-3329744-64354-64354-4011355.html

Theres a 10% off code "SAVE10HP" which saves 10% off the purchase, but since you cant order the cheaper version its a bit useless to me, i might try phoning the number and using the coupon code.

So anyways its definately up for pre order but noone seems to know anything about it :(

I'm sad this isn't available here in the US. How much do you think this would run here? (Euro to US conversion doesn't seem like a reasonable estimate).

Probably slightly more than the 1810tz is selling for, which im pretty sure its for sale in the US, or at least for pre order.

if you even search for the dm1 on the us hp webiste, it has NO articles what-so-ever on it, you wouldn't think it existed. Maybe they are just trying out in the uk now. The price is more than i would pay, and with no discrete graphics like it was supposed to have no way.

With no discrete graphics option, it's just another 1410 that costs more :(.

looks like for the moment they are only doing the release for the UK at the moment. There is literally like no info on the hp website, when for the other laptops there was information out months beforehand.

I wouldn't bother with it anyways, if it is the same specs and price when released here, it will be like a 1410 that costs 200-300 dollars more. If you really like that form and really want an hp go for the mini 311

i considered the mini 311, except this is totally different than the dm1. i don't play any games, but need a decent processor, so the atom + ion platform is no good for me.

I just configured a Mini 311 and the price came to $738! Still don't want the Atom 280 processor. Was counting on getting a DM1, but it isn't on the HP website. Is the U.S. being shortchanged? I'm also thinking HP's offering Windows 7 32-bit version seems a bit short sighted when Gateway has its 11.6 inch screen with the Celeron processor packaged with Win7 64-bit version. Guess I don't understand what HP is thinking. Why no DM1for U.S. buyers??

U.S. site now lists 12 models of the dm1 but nothing for sale yet.

Comparing the price to the Acer 1810tz for sale on Amazon.co.uk the DM1 on HP UK is £100 more but is listed with a external ODD and a larger HDD so hopefully the prices will end up being competitive.

Also interesting is the DM1 with the SU4100 has a 1030es/sa model number and several HP regions (including the US site linked above) list a 1090ev model which could signify a SU7300 model.

What would be even nicer would be a Neo x2/Congo variant like the DM3 offers. I'd sacrifice battery life for the better IGP but 11.6" is already larger than I'd like to go for a netbook.

I'm also considering the DM1 which is now available here in Denmark, but what exactly is the difference between the Mini 311 and the DM1 other than the DM1 has a better processor? I don't care about games, I just want best performance with Windows 7.

Go with DM1. It has better performance and battery life.

Mini 311 is only better for games.

Only issue I'm worried about is the glossy screen and HP's reputation of fan noise, I haven't yet found any reviews of the DM1 or Mini 311 that mentions the fan noise, so I wonder if this not a problem with HP anymore?

Price at Laptopsdirect went up to 449 now.

I wonder if they will deliver my unit, which I paid 329 for.

They cancelled mine without an explanation and told me to reorder, they never mentioned the new price but i assume thats why they cancelled it and told me to reorder. I complained to consumer direct, ive been on the phone with them a few times and apparently theres been quite a few complaints about this. Its not quite bait & switch (more like bait & price hike?) but its close and many people who bought it at £329 in the run up to xmas may well just pay the higher price which is unfair.

They did the same thing with me. Cancelled without any notice or explanation.

I called them, they promised to call me back, they never did.

Terrible service. Then again, I can't say I have not been warned:

Has there been any news about this for an US release? I've been debating between this, an Acer 1410, and the Lenovo U150. The U150 is more than I want to spend, and I have questionable doubts about Acer and the 1410. I really like how the Mini 311 looked like and felt (build quality), but I felt that the Atom was slow for me.

I managed to snatch a second hand DM1 for a very low price. Should be here by friday. Will do a quick comparison with the 1810tz.

Let me know if there are any specific requests.

@phil : thank you for the info. I wonder what this simcard slot is using for.Could you give me a link to download the graphic driver? I only get 3.5.
Of course DM1 has faster graphic, its using DDR3 instead of DDR2.

The reason the graphics are faster is that my memory is in symetric dual channel mode.

DDRr2 vs. DRR3 makes little difference.

You can find the graphic driver on Intel.com. Chipset > Laptop > Series 4. Take the .exe file.

The simcard slot can be used for when a 3G card is installed. It might also be possible to buy a 3G card from Ebay and install it yourself.

That's probably because you're not in symmetyric dual channel mode.

Download CPU-Z and see what it says about your memory.

By the way the display looks way batter with the gamma at 0.7 (intel driver settings).
