    Hi,

Got this laptop about 6 days ago to replace an older Toshiba model. I love it but it has a few things that I dislike.

I've notice that when on Battery the processor speed doesnt go down, the screen doesnt dimm or anything like that, At most i'm getting an hour and 15 minutes on battery power compared to around 3 and a half on my old machine, needless to say when Im travling this is a problem! laptops that ive had in the past have had a power control panel with what to do when the plug is unpluged from it, but this doesnt seem to!

Also the fans seem to run almost all the time and it burns when its on my lap, therefore I find it uncomfortable to use!

I think its a high performance laptop becuase of the ammount of ram ect (Im not knowledgeable on what is high performance and what is not) but I didn't expect it to get this hot!

I love everything else about this laptop! Its fast and does what I want it to do its just the problems above are starting to bug me and make me feel ive made a bad choice!

Check your Power options to see if the power scheme is set to Portable/laptop. This scheme will downclock the processor when idle. The system should automatically dim when running on battery. If it isnt doing this then you can manually decrease it by pressing Fn key and F7. It can be increase back again by pressing Fn & F8. HP's never had any other power management software other than the default Windows power management which usually works quite well.

Also what are you using to check the cpu speed, if it is the windows system properties menu then it might be just showing the max speed the cpu is capable of instead of the current speed.

You need to change your power options.
