The Optical Drive on my Hp Pavillion (dv2222tx, Vista, about 1.5 years old) can no longer be detected. It was working until recently, and now when I put a disk in, the light flashes a bit, but nothing is detected.

I went into device manager, and no DVD/CD drive can be detected.

I also went through the steps on HP's troubleshooting (below), to no avail.

Could anyone help me with this please? Could I have somehow deleted the driver to my optical drive?

Try taking out your optical drive then restart the computer. Then shut it down and put the drive back in. Then start the computer back up.

Go to your device manager > IDE controllers.

Make sure the transfer mode is set to DMA for both channels.

If that doesnt work, try the following:

    1) Close all open programs

    2) Click on Start, Run, and type REGEDIT and press Enter

    3) Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    SYSTEM
    CurrentControlSet
    Control
    Class
    {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

    4) This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

    UpperFilters
    LowerFilters
    UpperFilters.bak
    LowerFilters.bak

    5) If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete

    6) After deleting the keys, close the Registry Editor

    7) Reboot your computer

    Hi, thanks for the help.

I followed the steps you posted through, but there were no Upper or Lower filters which I could delete.

Could this be a hardware issue? It seems a little weird that my DVD drive apparently doesn't exist anymore!
