Got the HP Pavillion dv6 6121tx laptop a few days back. It has the Radeon 6770m graphics card.
Here are some tips which helped me improve gaming performance to a great extent:-
1. update the graphics card driver through Windows Update
2. While gaming keep the laptop on a flat surface (using a cooling pad from a reputed manufacturer is even better)
3. update directx
4. switch the wireless and touchpad off during gaming, use external mouse, connect the USB mouse to the 3.0 port on the left side of the laptop
5. use an antivirus product which consumes less resources, i use kaspersky
6. right click on desktop, choose switchable graphics,in the switchable graphics window, click browse and choose the .exe of the game and select High performance for that game
7. always use the high performance power scheme while gaming, and AC power
8. use HP coolsense to lower temperature of the laptop after u finish the game session
9. format (burn recovery disks before format) the laptop to get rid of unnecessary software provided by the manufacturer, use the windows 7 key given on a sticker at the back of the laptop after reinstall
10. after format install all latest drivers, perform disk cleanup and defragmentation

On mine the 3.0 ports are on the left for some reason. I think they may have installed them backwards...
-
my bad, they are on the left side on mine too

I wonder if this would work with programs like Adobe and CAD?
-
i think it would certainly work, u can try, pls report if the above steps improved performance in adobe and/or CAD
i would have checked myself but i never use CAD/adobe photoshop

I would check but don't have the laptop. I'm in the process of ordering one
-
if u haven't ordered, i suggest you research before you place an order, there are many threads on this forum about using hp dv series laptops for running adobe, adobe uses openGL, just google "openGL 6770m"

Exactly why I haven't pulled the trigger. But I'm hearing that not only hp is having this problem so a fix is a must and should be coming out...... Hopefully
-
its advisable to wait, because the HP dv6/7 series laptops with the 6770m are far better than laptops from other manufacturers in the same price range

Lol well aware of that haha. I'm more concerned with this switching issue since I'll be doing cad adobe an 3d work as well as gaming and I don't want a bulky thing or a business line. Since I currently have the t61p

Has anybody figured out how to OC the dv6 6100 series?
-
heyy how to run games in fullscreen without those black side borders in games having non-native /lower resolutions ??
-
you can lower the screen resolution, say to 800*600, that will get rid of the borders
-
there are many threads on this forum that can provide u directions, i had read some persons post where he had successfully overclocked 6770m, dont remember where, he got only 10-15% improvement by overclocking, i dont think it is worth the trouble if u are getting only 15% improvement
-
amd is going to release a driver update for 6770m sometime in July
-
I did a couple google searches and I haven't been able to find anybody who was to successfully OC.
Are you sure you're not talking about the dv6-6000 (i.e. not dv6-6100 with the muxless switchable graphics)? -
does DV6 6121TX comes with LightScribe ? Coz when I try to Burn Lightscribe CD its says NO Lightscribe Drive FOUND

I bought my machine 2 weeks back and now I am having problem with the keyboard. The UP arrow key and F key have become rigid. I don't know why I have to press them real hard to use it...
...
plus I think when I did dxdiag when I purchased my machine it showed approximate total memory more(As far as I remember) but now it shows 768 only. Is there any problem?
Nowhere except the device manager I am able to see my graphic card name why is it so???
-
jus recover the system it'll b fine..

I formatted and re installed all the required drivers, but the windows experience index for Graphics: Desktop performance is being shown as 5.9 unlike 6.6 in the image u posted. its the lowest along with HDD transfer rate of 5.9.
Anything i might have missed out installing that caused this.?
i7, 4gb ram, 2gb radeon 6770M graphics.

Your laptop model is 60xx or 61xx? If the latter, probably u on dynamic switching and your WEI graphic scores are from Intel HD 3000 not AMD HD6770M.

I wasted 2 days trying to get RAGE to work on my 6121tx with ATI 6770m. Here are the foolproof steps. These steps might solve the issues with OPENGL related issues too.
1) Update bios by downloading and running sp54024.exe from HP drivers page. This BIOS update adds support for manually selecting the a graphics card.
Reboot.
HP Notebook System BIOS Update (Intel Processors) HP Pavilion dv6-6121tx Entertainment Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)
2) While booting go into BIOS options (Esc at boot, then F10) and select FIXED graphic card switching instead of DYNAMIC. Save and reboot.
2) Uninstall all existing ATI drivers. reboot.
3) Install the latest graphics driver from HP site. sp54462.exe [1/1, 275.67M]
AMD High-Definition Graphics Driver HP Pavilion dv6-6121tx Entertainment Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)
reboot.
4) Install the latest drivers with support for RAGE.
http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/GPU124AMDCat1110PreDriverV3.aspx
reboot.
5) Now in switchable graphics option, you can specify which card (ATI or Intel) is to be used. Make sure ATI is selected.
5) Enjoy RAGE!
