I use an HDMI cable on the NVIDIA sound/video card on my HP Pavillion dv9000 series laptop to play sound/video through my home cinema system.

It works, but from time to time sounds cuts out. Sometimes the cutout happens cleanly (sound just stops for either a few seconds or sometimes a period of maybe 20 seconds) and when the screensaver is operating (I use the built in Pictures slideshow screensaver to display photos from my Pictures folder when the machine is idel) I get click type interference on the sound (similar to the kind of sound you get if you have a loose connection or you plug/unplug a microphone while you're using it - spikes of sharp sound).

Yes, I could stop using the screensaver when I'm playing sound back - but surely I shouldn't need to. And why does sound cut completely sometimes?

Any thoughts? I have both HP and Windows software updates running so I have the latest available drivers and software. (I use iTunes to play sound/video on the laptop).
