I just got a new tx2500 with 3 gig RAM. I am getting a windows user experience rating of 3.6(Aero performance of 3.6 and gaming graphics of 3.7). I remember seeing somewhere that the normal rating is somewhere close to 4.0. I was just wondering what are the kind of numbers everyone is getting. And if this is low, how do I bump it up

Who cares about that score? lol

That is Microsoft's way of belittling the components in your computer.

Windows Aero may look nice, but it's pointless. It's a hogging interface that should be disabled.

While Aero alone is a resource hog, it can be made into less of a hog. The main thing that uses system resources with Aero are all of the fancy new graphical effects. I have "Aero" enabled on my notebook, but have all of the graphical effects disabled. My "Windows Experience Rating" may still be 3.1, but the computer runs much better now. And by the way, the rating is still 3.1 even with Aero disabled altogether.

The RAM is running is non dual channel mode, so a 3.6 rating for WEI is normal. If you had either 4GB or 2GB RAM you would have gotten 4.0 as the WEI. In any case nothing to worry about.

Hey miner. Thanks. That must be the reason. I know that the score doesn't mean much. But since I haven't tested the graphics so far, just wanted a quick & dirty idea

When my tx2500z went from 3GB to 4GB, the rating went from 3.7 to 3.8. The "gaming graphics" is the limiting factor. As the tx2500z gets too hot when I try to play 3D games, I don't, and so I have no motivation to further investigate why the score is so low. :D

Did you replace both RAM sticks or replaced just one? If I were to guess you most likely have the RAM running at DDR2 667(333MHz) instead of DDR2 800.

    lol, you're right.

However, both of my sticks are 2GB DDR2 800 (and both cpuz and pc wizard verify that they're DDR2 800), but I can't find a way of changing the memory speed. The BIOS has been idiot-proofed, and there's no way there to change the speed. Is there a way to change it?

Maybe it's just a marketing scheme from Microsoft? lol

It makes everyone aggravated and paranoid to the extent that you want to go out and buy new computer parts. THAT'S IT! It's one huge partnership marketing scheme between every computer manufacturer and Microsoft.

Im getting a 4.0 because of my gaming graphics being the lowest score. Everything else is around 5.2

Is the aftermarket stick an OCZ by any chance? I noticed similar issue where pairing the OCZ with the stock memory resulted in this problem. Looks like the two sticks dont play nice together, on their own they worked at the advertised speed. I ended up RMA'ing the ocz since 3GB is more than enough for my uses & an extra gig didnt really show noticeable benefits for my usage.
