I just got my laptop today after waiting for a 4 day clearance delay, which trust me i was pretty upset about after i realized it was all hp's fault. So I opened the notebook turned it on and all was well, until windows couldn't find the fingerprint reader. Basically the software was never installed or something. I was then told to do a system recovery and the fingerprint reader would work. After doing this not only does the fingerprint reader still not work, windows will not even open up because i now get an error message saying that my windows product key is invalid. Now HP is telling me i have to wait another week because i have to send my computer in for repair. What the hell is wrong with HP They were so good up until i exchanged my dv6700t for a dv2700t. The dv6700t worked perfect but i wanted a smaller computer, and now HP Is GARBAGE. Is this Normal for HP or am i just an unlucky son of a gun?

If you read my little rage at HP you would note that i cannot play with this unit as after the system recovery windows will not open informing me that my product key for Vista is invalid. And HP claims they are not sending me a new unit but are repairing this one.

If you are within the 21 day period you can return the laptop no questions asked. Just call in and tell them you want to return the laptop.

People think this world is perfect, it's not. I sympathize with you that this happened, but nothing is perfect and people are bound to receive bad products (for anything they purchase). Now obviously it is better if the ratio is very low of bad products, but you'll never be able to tell unless you actually do a survey and contact every HP laptop owner.

Now when you say Windows couldn't find the fingerprint reader, do you mean it couldn't find the drivers to install it, or Windows didn't see the fingerprint reader at all? If Windows couldn't see it, and it didn't show up as an unknown device then it is a hardware issue, not software. If it came up as an unknown device, all you had to do was go to HP's website and download and install the fingerprint reader software.

    Hmmmm….?

You used the recovery utility, and Vista installed. Then you go to boot into windows, and there’s a message saying you have an invalid key? Did you perform the recovery using the F10 method, or CD/DVD that was (if at all) provided with your notebook?

    Ok a little update...

After 3 frustrating hours, mostly of the techies trying to help me fix it and then realizing that it was actually a hardware problem (and me still not being able to log onto windows because of an "invalid product key"), i am getting a new laptop with the same specs except an upgrade in ram, 3gb instead of 2gb, and a free 15 month norton 360 subscription and a free office 2007 basic. HP redemmed themselves so maybe they aren't garbage, but this is definitely an annoying wait. And let me just say that the support is awful unless you get your case manager involved
