I started having problems with a loose power jack with my Pavilion zv5000. After doing some research here and other boards, it appears this is a common problem with broken power jacks. Since my warranty was expired, I decided to tackle it myself. First I tried a new AC power plug, hoping that would solve the problem. I found one on ebay at this place:
    http://stores.ebay.com/Laptopsinternational
There service was very good, but the problem was not with the AC adapter, it was the jack. After some research with that, I found I could buy another jack for about $30.00 and solder it myself, or pay $130.00 for someone else to do it. But I was afraid the same problem would surface again. Plus, I really did not want to remove the motherboard from my laptop myself. Finally I found this cable at techexcess.net
    http://www.techexcess.net/
called, "HP xc1000 Notebook All-in-One Medial Cable" for $26.25. It is suppose to plug into the Expansion Port. One of it's plugs is made to connect the power plug from the AC Power adapter and power the laptop along with charging the battery. Compatibility: HP Pavilion zd7000 series, zx5000, zv5000, and Compaq Presario R3000 notebook PCs with an expansion port.
I ordered one this morning, two hours later I was notified that it was in the mail via UPS. I will post back how it works. This might help anyone who is having problems with the power jack.

I was having trouble with my power jack (dc in) as well on my hp zt1155. I opened up my laptop and low and behold it was a cold solder joint. The jack moves around a LOT when the plug is insert/removed. Anyway, I re-soldered it myself and while I seem to have no more power disconnects and my laptop doesn't bounce on/off battery constantly I've taken this to mean that my soldering worked. Unfortunately my "new" <1 year battery is fried. I replaced it about a year ago when I thought it was the problem. Low and behold, the "new" one is now fried. I've tried repeatedly running the battery optimizer to no avail. The laptop will run about 30-60 minutes on the battery, assuming I disable the auto shut-down. The problem is that it read 98% for about 5 minutes, then instantly drops to 7% and slowly makes it was to 0%.

Doesn't matter. I'm ditching this thing anyway as you can see in my sig.

Do let us know though how the adaptor works out?

That cable from TechExcess should work. I saw it on their website a few weeks ago, but it does not work with DV4000. Otherwise, I'll get one for myself. My headphone jack is having problem too. I guess the retention clip in all their jacks are bad.
