I have a HP Compaq 6720 running Windows XP Pro SP2.

It came with no OS and no HP software. Now I need the software to control the screen brightness and those Fn + 'key' controls and I think I need quick launch for that.

However, HP has removed that from their site owing to some vulnerability. Any ideas how can I get that now? And is it possible to control the brightness without that software?

    Thanks

Hmm, are you sure that's a quicklaunch issue? Because I did a clean install of Vista and the brightness keys did not work until I installed the drivers for my graphics card. And I'm very sure I did not install either quicklaunch or quickplay.

Well I have installed the graphics card driver and I think its related to quick launch as I know of a couple of people with the same laptop on windows xp with the same issue.

    Maybe its different with Vista.

Also, is there any other way to change the brightness?

I'm not sure how it works under XP, as this is my first notebook and HP only supported Vista drivers for it. But if you right click on the battery icon in XP, are there any options in there for brightness? If that doesn't work maybe the 'display properties' contains something in 'advanced'?
