    You're using Vista aren't you.

It works like you want it to in XP but then when you transfer to Vista it screws up like you experience it.

I haven't found a fix for it, but I'm in the same boat as you...

Are you referring to how iTunes registers each keypress twice, i.e. so if you press mute it will mute and unmute straightaway?

I have a dv4000 on Windows XP, and the same happens to me. I found a solution to this from somewhere on the web, so you might want to give this a try:

    1. Go to C:\Program Files\iTunes
    2. Find iTunesKeyboardCompatibility.dll
    3. Make a new folder and rename it to iTunesKeyboardCompatibility.dll, and delete the above dll file

It should work after you delete the dll file and make a new folder with the same name (including the .dll extension).

    :)

I am using Vista and iTunes 7.2.0.35. I've seen other reports on here about it working on some versions of itunes and then not on others. With mine, the mute button works all the time. But, the play, pause, next track, stop, etc. buttons only work if iTunes is active. I was going to do the iTunesKeyboardCompatibility.dll fix but I cannot find that file; it appears it is no longer a part of itunes. Is anyone else using itunes 7.2 and having trouble? Anyone using a different version of itunes 7 and getting it to work?

The buttons worked fine on iTunes 7.0 without having to do the fix I mentioned. Once I upgraded to 7.0.1 (can't remember which version exactly, might have been 7.0.2 or 7.1), the QuickLaunch buttons started playing up. Hence I looked for a fix and removing iTunesKeyboardCompatibility.dll worked for me.

You might want to see if there are updates for your buttons on HP's website?!

    Sorry I couldn't help you further. :)

I have an HP dv2098ea notebook and iTunes 7.5 and the quickplay buttons work PERFECTLY with windows media player focues or in the background, all of them work perfectly, but with iTunes it only works if its focused and in the foreground..
I tried the fix with the keyboard compatibility dll and I foudn that i dont have that dll for some reason... and another thing I tried was to update the driver of the quickplay buttons but for some reason I cant find them anywhere, not even on the HP site..
this is really confusing me can any1 suggest smthing? other than trashing itunes cause i need it for sync with my ipod, and am not ready to pay for a plugin for windows media player, althougth at this point i seriously need to.

hey, I'm still lost, I don't have the .dll file I have updated the QuickPlay but still nothing. I have Vista and a dv6000, has anyone found a solution that did not have the .dll file?
