    Hi all,

I'm new to this forum as my old laptop just crashed so I'm in the market for a new one. I just purchased a Dell Inspiron 1420, but now I see the $500 HP coupon and can get a better HP Pavilion dv2700t for the same price. Also, I was disappointed to find out that the Dell does not have a docking station.

My question for anyone who may know is what is the maximum resolution that the HP Quickdock can support for external monitors? I have read that most of the third party docking stations are really poor when it comes to external monitor resolution and quality so I want to be sure that it is worth it to get the Quickdock since I will most likely be buying a 22" monitor soon.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

The HP Quickdock is much better than a aftermarket dock, in that the dock is optimized for the system.

You should be able to support at least 1680x1050, possibly even 1920x1200, without an issue. I used to have one, but I don't think I ever tried using an external monitor with one.

I havent actually tried putting in an external monitor throught quickdock but im sure it just replicates the VGA port.

Theres always a HDMI port for hi-def tv's instead of a 22" screen

I run my 22 inch samsung through the quick dock at 1680, works very well.
    Lots of usb ports too.

    Does the quickdock have HDMI?

I just bought a 22in HP monitor that has HDMI, and I would really rather use HDMI. Anyone know? Thanks.

From what I have read and seen it doesn't have HDMI. It has VGA, component, composite video, and S-Video ports.

No quickdock doesnt have HDMI out, youll have to use the laptops port.

Quickdock is quite handy, it houses all of my external devices (cooler, external hd,mouse, keyboard) and turns into 1 cable. Now i just have to unplug the quickdock cable and take the laptop anywhere in the house. Quite handy and worth it for the $30 i payed

Wow, $30? I haven't seen it for that cheap. Was it a special deal or a specific store?

I just got my quickdock in the mail yesterday, I was curious as to how I can get the sound working from the digital out jack, I'm trying to connect it to a receiver.

Most likely ebay or foreign currency.

the SPDIF jack on the actual notebook?

For Vista, Go to your Sound Playback options and Right click SPDIF and make it the "Set as default device" the right click again and "Test"

I dont think you can get digital out from quickdock.
