Can I get 3rd party RAM and install it along with one of my HP sticks if I get it with PC4300 266MHz (the same configuration as my HP RAM). Will there be compatibility issues if I use 2 different brands on the same PC?

There should not be any problems, but there are certain cases where such incompatibilities exist. Get some good qualty RAM and you should be fine. I have mixed memories of different brands and never had any issues.

AMD systems might have have problems but you should be fine if you have an Intel system.

    ^ Agreed.
I bought an additional 512 MB stick from Kingston to add to the stuff put in by HP and it's working fine
