HP Recovery Disc? Can You upload?

So here's the deal. I bought my Envy 14 (14t-1000 CTO) in the US, but moved with it to Poland. I deleted the recovery partition just after having bought the laptop, because it took quite a bit of space on my small 128GB SSD (about 15GB, as far as I recall) and haven't decided to burn a recovery DVD beforehand - I never believed it would be actually useful.

Well, as it turns out, I really made a mistake. HP is having my laptop under scrutiny right now and are investigating the CPU whine issue - they asked me to do a complete OS reset (after they send the laptop back to me) from recovery disc to see whether it's software issue. I told them about the situation, but they replied they cannot import the recovery discs from the US :( And HP only ships them from the US.

So I'm kindly asking those of You guys who have a fast Internet connection and are willing to help - would You be kind anough to upload the .iso image of the recovery disc to some sort of file management site?

I know it's much to ask, but for those of You who have 10Mb/s connection and more, this would be a piece of cake.

Just tell HP that you did and still have the same issue. When you send it in for repair, they are going to wipe your SSD clean and reimage it to factory settings anyway. So make sure you backup your drive.

It's silly of them to always bother people with this step of factory install. Has nothing to do with your issue.

The recovery media is many .iso files as it takes several discs to make them.

It also can be locked in to your specific computer.

And has been getting larger as newer envies go along *takes a glance at his 4 discs while CTO1200s have like 7 or 8 discs*

They said that the first step would be to disable all non-essential Microsoft and 3-rd party services in msconfig, reboot and see if the problem persists. If it does, they told me my last resort would be to reinstall form recovery.

About that reimaging : How could they do that? Envy 14 is not sold in Poland. I believe it's completely different in the US and Poland's HP Service Depts. - after all, each model of each laptop should have its own stock recovery image - drivers bundles in the system image/HP software change depending on the model used, right? When it's sold in the US, their Service Depts have access to all the data necessary for the repaired model.

I think they were straight with me when saying that they are unable to do that.

I have the default recovery disks (and they work on any computer AFAIK)

    It's 2x Dual layer 8.5GB disks, plus a normal 4.7GB disk.

    It'll take forever to upload...

Yeah, the files are huge and is like torrent-worthy of an upload. Also, if you are using end user-burned copies of the recovery disks, they only work on the laptop you burned them from (they are tied via BIOS to the Serial Number of your laptop).

Either way, it is better to ask HP to do it under warranty or buy a set of recovery media from HP. Those do work on all laptops that can detect it is an HP via the BIOS.

I suppose I can try, but it'll take me at least 1-2 days' worth of uploading, provided our horrible AT&T U-verse doesn't cut out in the middle. I might upload in smallish segments, or maybe I could use my school's uber fast upload speeds...

    idk. i'll try

edit: you do realize that's 21.7 GB right

Just FYI, I think HP may take a pretty dim view of someone other than HP distributing their software. Since this is a public forum I would assume they have people on it every now and then.

Thanks for wanting to help me, but I do not need those discs anymore. On 24th of March I wrote:

What I meant by that, is that since they have decided not to fix it in the first place, there is no reason for me to try to revert to factory settings. Now I see I made a mistake in not saying that clearly. Sorry for the confusion.

I fixed my whine problem eventually by disabling C-states in Advanced BIOS settings. Doesn't seem to have any significant (if at all) impact on battery life or emmisions and makes the whine go away.
