I'm trying to resurrect my old DM1z with an SSD, but when making recovery discs the recovery program (very oddly named Rebecca) Makes one DVD DL than spits out a rather stoic box that says nothing other than 'this program has come acrossed an error, please try again'... so I did and pretty much the second time it did the same thing at almost the same (if not the same) spot, at the verify procedure.

    a) ??

    b) I have 2 recovery disc 1 of 3, but I can't get to disc 2 (or 3) just for sake of non-redundancy is there a way to start at disc 2 instead of just wasting another disc 1??

I know that's not a whole lot to go off of, but if any of you mirical workers have an idea of how I can get this SSD installled (with recovery discs) please leave it here I will respond :) thanks for your help!

I had this problem with an Envy 15. HP support told me that the recovery manager does not work with dual layer (DL) DVDs. This is in spite of the fact that the software explicitly showed DVD DLs as an option. If you have single layer DVDs laying around, you can try those.

In my case, I called HP thinking that my DVD drive might be defective. They ended up sending me recovery DVDs through the mail after I was VERY INSISTENT that I was not going to buy more DVDs when their software ruined the ones I had just purchased.

As for the SSD, you should be able to clone your existing dirve onto the SSD. Some SSDs come with a USB adapter and cloning software. This is very convenient, & you won't even need to create the recovery discs.

Likely not what you want to hear but.... you should consider a fresh OS install on the SSD. If you look on the DM1z "C" drive you will see an Software Setup folder. This folder includes most, if not all, the original software and drivers you need to restore the unit. Copy the folder, do a fresh OS install, then use what you need of the HP provided stuff in the setup folder you saved elsewhere. Done correctly, your unit will run better than when new, and you'll save some space for SSD usage.

    Just a thought...

    Best, Dave

To move all partitions from Hard Disk Drive to SSD you'll need very good cloning software, use an usb enclosure with the ssd in it and then the cloning software can copy everything over., since your moving to a smaller drive the Cloning software must have "proportional resizing" a lot of free ones lack this..

    Cheers
