Hello Guys;
I just bought an HP DV6-3104eg notebook in germany and want to change the OS to English. I am thinking of botting from CD,formatting the whole laptop and re-installing Windows 7.The drivers in English are available from the HP site. But there was no mention of a recovery software in the software list!
After the Windows and drivers are installed how can I made recovery CDs?
Thanks

It's not possible in this situation.
You can use for e.x. Acronis.
It's has option to make your own Recovery. -
I might be wrong but I think Windows 7 can make recovery CDs and drive backup (not sure if all the flavors of Win7 but I guess). It should be in the action center if I remember correctly. You can make a backup on an external drive and create recovery CDs to use later on.

Hi
You mean if I install Win 7 Ultimate, then make recovery CD via Windows?
Is there a way to make the CDs from HP tool? Its really silly that the tool is somewhere in the present German installation or the German recovery partition. But cannot take it out and copy over after new windows installation. -
Just create the recovery set before reinstalling windows with another language.
You cannot alter the recovery language anyways, it will stay German and will overwrite the English installation when used. Basically it's good only when you plan to sell the computer and wish to return it into original condition.
It's simpler to create disc set now, then totally wipe out all partitions including un-usable German recovery and reinstall English Win7. -
Another option is to google for a program that changes the windows 7 language. I think on vista you could find a program to change the language of the installation. So you could install HP's german version and then switch it to english and be happy. Never used something like this though so not sure how well it works.

That program hacks some resource files to fool windows and allow installing of language files. Biggest downside is that some users have had their windows installation tagged as non-genuine afterwards.

Thanks for the info guys.W7 ltimate can indeed change language.
I am worried about something going wrong after installing W7 in English and then having to do this again in case something goes wrong.Would be awesome to have a recovery CD after the W7 english installation as well with HP tool. Why do they not allow to download this from their site?? -
Even if you could make the HP recovery system work after you install the English Windows 7 it will still restore GERMAN windows installation, since the recovery partition's content is in German.
Basically after everything you have done, at best, you would have two (2) sets of GERMAN recovery discs.
If you wish to create a working "recovery" of your current English installation, do not look at HP for help but instead post #2 in this thread. -
Windows 7 Professional, Ultimate and Enterprise (both x64 and x84 versions)are all capable of creating an image file of any partition (primary or not). In my opinion, this is the better option since you could basically convert the language files over, install any third-party software, drivers, etc you wish then save to either an external HDD or another Windows partition on the same disk. You can even create your own recovery disk(s) utilizing the saved image you create. No need for Arconis at all.

Would this make DVD that can be booted from and restore the system to previous state?
Any limitation over the HP discs?
All rep"d -
I've never used that Windows's own backup and recovery but I would guess it makes a backup of your current situation and restores that.
HP recovery instead returns computer to "fresh" install, as if computer was just bought. -

The problem is if something goes wrong or Windows becomes corrupt this backup may not work.
I am looking for something to back the image to the DVD and it can be used to restore to the original state. -
That's why you should do the german recovery discs first, to restore computer to it's original state...

Back to german

Windows Vista and 7 include "recovery options" on the physical disk so that if you do have an issue where it will not boot up, you could for example, pop in the recovery disk, you create, which would locate the image files of your backup and completely restore your system to the state it was in when you created the backup. The actual installation DVD (your Windows disk share) also contains a recovery center that can perform the same feat. You just pop in the DVD and choose the corresponding options. It does not matter if the backup is on the same physical drive or if it was saved to an external device. As long as it is connected when you do the restoration, Windows will find the backup.

Awesome!! So in short they are quite similar to the HP software.
