First off, great site and great forum! I've learned more in the past 30mins oh I mean 2 hours (time flys when your having fun) about laptops then ever before. [^]

I am not the type who buys refurb products, but this looks like too good a deal for this cheap bastard to pass up. I would like your opinons on this deal...what do you think.

    Here are the details...
    http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1117264&Sku=C67-1424&SRCCODE=CNETFEED&CMP=OTC-CNETFEED

Are there any screaming deals I should know about other than this one?

Is there anything I should know about HP? How is the battery life? How does the keyboard feel? I read it is 6.6 pounds, but how heavy is it really with the power supply and everything?

    Happy New Years!

the zt3000 is a great notebook model that I'm a fan of. However, notice you only get 3-month warranty with this refurb. In my opinion that's too short and I'd be mildly nervous. You can upgrade that 3-month to 1-year for $199, but then you're getting into the price range of a new laptop that can be bought with similar specs. To add to this, I've heard of some having problems with TigerDirect.com...it's been a while since I ordered from them so maybe it's changed, but the one time I did it took forever to get some memory.

I'd look around on eBay too if you want to find a good deal on a used laptop with a warranty that might still have life on it. Also checkout actual manufacturer sites to see if they're offering refurbs with a 1-year warranty included.

Thanks for the input! I did find the same unit at the same price on Costco.com

Costco offers a no questions refund for 6 months on computers. I like the flexibility but I would hate to have to start over again with a new unit and have to load everything the way I like it. The other issue I see with Costco is that you never know what product sku's they will have in stock from day to day. So even tho I get a refund, I may have to restart my search again and start shopping again for a new model.

hmmm...this is just why I tend to only buy new.

If I were to buy new, is this a good model to look for? I like the feature set.

I will be using it mostly for video. Streaming video encoding to MPEG 4 or WM9 and decoding, editing and presentations, so speed and screen res and size is important.

Unfortunately we are a startup and we have spent the 2005 computer budget already on the sales team and dlp projectors, so I will be buying this out of my pocket and writing it off on tax day. Any other suggestions (any quality brand), under $1600.00?

While searching for a new laptop myself I found some great deals at www.newegg.com
    Check them out
You can probably get something you are looking for for under 1600
They have some nice Fujitsu's at great prices
    Good luck
