I had been having a problem with the switch that sends the notebook itno standbye when you close the screen, the machine was out of warranty so I decided to look at it myself, I had the entire notebook apart, I had inspected every board, resistor chip etc.
Prior to sending it to HP I even made certain to clean the exterior case, I'm a clean freak so it wasn't that bad, I even used rubber gloves ( former Police Detective). I got a price quote on the repair sent it off in the box the fedex'd and waited.
I get a phone call from them stating I have a fluid spill, they sent photos of the spots on the case boards etc. This machine was spotless, not a mark on it, certainly no fluid spill, I have sent several e mails, demanded a customer service manager contact me, and all I get are techs arguing with me about the cost of the repair.
I am insenced that my notebook that never had a spot on it had somone at HP spill liquid on my machine and now are avoiding me. e mails have been read, and I'm told the tech who read them was on vacation, they keep shipping me around from tech to tech, I faxed a letter to HP's USA Corp HQ in California, and as yet have had no reply, I have photos of the machine and it's pristine condition before I sent it out, but they are completely dodging me, as I'm in NY, I will need to wait until they open in CA, to update this thread, but as for now my machine has been killed by careless workers.

Sure it was a switch and not a OS problem? Taking it apart is pretty gutsy. Keep us up to date.

Are you able to post up the pics that they claim as fluid spills?

I used to work in the mobile phone industry, where spotting fluid ingress were the highlight of my days (I kid you not). In short, green furry corrosion (like that found on car battery terminals; but microscopic) are indications of fluid contact. But if it's white or clear 'spots' on the circuit boards, it would have been very recent (ie. in their hands).

Could've been fluid that seeped through and disabled your switch. You weren't near the beach or pool were you or a party with kids around?
