I got a RMA from HP Shopping, they sent me a label and I took it to Kinkos to return. The Kinkos rep stated it was a pre-paid for label I had.

I was under the impression from the boards if there was a return the purchaser (me) had to pay for it to be returned. Will hp shopping be charging my card for the shipping or did they pay for it?

if you returned it because of a technical problem that HP is supposed to pay for it. you are probably fine.

When I returned my DV2000T, they gave me an RMA#, they paid shipping, and they even send a UPS guy to pick it up. I was surprised as well.

I didn't even open it up. I told them I was returning it because I bought a DV6000Z from Costco (which was true). I was expecting to pay for it but glad I didn't.

I read a few horror stories, but I've found HP customer service to be very good. I returned a dv8000 last month, they had fedex come to my door, they paid for the return, and within 2 days the full amount was back in my cc account. Can't really ask for any better service than that.

I returned a DV2000T with a Core Duo because the Core 2 Duo came out in the meantime. Same thing for me... they sent FedEx to my door with labels to pick up the laptop and as soon as he scanned the return into the system, HP must have been immediately notified because they refunded my credit card immediately.

They must pay Fed Ex a flat rate every month for the large volume of shipping...

I've found HP to be very quick with processing credits and refunds. Their customer service is very good and very polite. As with Dell they will pay for return shipping if you are not satisfied with the laptop and want to return it within 21 days.

I just returned another machine today (I ordered one with the wrong screen- my mistake). Once again, the refund is already showing as pending.

Does fedex supply the box and packaging to return it in? that would be really neat if I didnt have to go out and buy a box.

You didn't keep your original box? You must have a really clean house. :)

I used the original boxes (had a printer too), they just supplied the prepaid labels in my case. But then again, I tend to be a pack rat.

For a new computer, they expect you to still have the box. Otherwise, for warranty issues, they send you the box. If you threw out the box already, I suppose they would go ahead and send you a box. It has the foam pieces with it to pad your computer during shipping (we sent two in for repairs and they sent the boxes with padding).
