    Hi guys,

Recently I had to send my HP DM4-1162us (bought on Black Friday) in due to blown speakers. Here is the timeline:

Dec 17: Call HP support, spend a long time on the phone, go to 2nd tier CSR who says he will call me back tomorrow

Dec 19: Support calls me back, puts in a service order

Dec 23: Send back laptop to HP in Hidalgo, TX using the box they shipped me

Dec 27: FedEx says laptop is delivered, no change in status on HP website

Jan 5: Called HP to ask why the status has not changed yet, they say due to "high volume"

Jan 6: HP says laptop received, expected delivery date is 1/19 (more than a month since I called service first)

Jan 11 (today): HP says expected delivery date has been delayed to 2/8

I originally bought the computer for school which started this week and 3ds Max. Right now I have no computer that can run the program for my design class which is a very big problem. I have heard of stories where on the 3rd delay HP would send a replacement computer, but I am only on my 2nd delay. I am going to call support again today because I cannot wait until 2/8; does anyone have any suggestions for what I should say to the case manager? Otherwise, I am going to drop on a ASUS U30JC-B1 for $649 (I was about to buy this when I bought the HP) cause the new sandy bridge N53sv is out of my budget.

    Thanks in advance.

    changt34x, welcome to NBR! :)

I am sorry to hear of your story. Yes, you really need to call HP again and tell them you are not happy with the time frame of the service. You might even try to see if they can "compensate" you somehow for this. If not sending you a loaner, maybe $100 or so credit back! :D

My suggestion in this case since you need a laptop ASAP..... Go tonight, or tomorrow to your local Costco warehouse and pick a laptop of your choice. Enjoy it, and make sure to return it before your 3 months are up. That's it. Oh, but you should have a Costco membership, then again, who in the USA does not have a Costco membership by now? Lol.

This should hold you over until HP sends your laptop back, or you might even just tell them to keep it and refund you the full purchase price. Best of luck. Enjoy NBR.

Holy crap, you can buy a laptop and then return within 3 months at costco...wow thats ridiculous Australia needs this right now. Otherwise I'll just move on over there haha.

Orange Canary, you need to sit down when I tell you this my friend...lol. Not long ago Costco used to have a 6 month return policy on computers!!! Yes, I think because of me, they might have changed it to 3 months, HAHA.. :p

Can you even imagine having a computer for 6 months, then getting one with new technology for a fraction more? Still love Costco! I currently have a DV7 until HP decides to get in gear and bring us the SB Envy 17 3D.

Costco is around the world. I'm surprised you don't have one in Australia. You need to ask Costco to come over there now. ;)

So wait...your telling me you can buy a computer there and then return it within 3 months for a refund of your money?

Oh my god, it sounds so beautiful tears are streaming down my face.

I don't think Costco will be setting up here anytime soon, their store would be swept away.

Yes, a full refund. They do not give you any hassels. You bring it in, the customer service desks calls over their in house computer person to inspect the box to make sure you returned all the items. Then they give you back all your money either to a credit card American Express or Cash depending how you paid.

Lol I never thought of the Costco idea. Its not the best moral thing to do haha but oh well. Got an order in for a U35 online today. HP says they can't do anything for me (probably BS) but as long as it comes within three months I'm fine.

Tough times call for desperate measures, lol. :D ;) Just remember changt34x, in this life you are #1 ok? Just be a good person and don't hurt anyone...Sheesh, sorry for the moral lesson in the HP thread. Best of luck with your laptop and classes!

    P.S. Sorry, but what is a U35?

Moral lessons are always good...hopefully HP can learn one with their customer service. And the U35 is an ASUS U35JC, which is a sort of ultraportable (but a bit heavier) laptop that spanks the MacBook Air.
