Stumbled across this product page while browsing for HP laptops. Seems like they may have put up the product page prematurely.

The new design is definitely an interesting departure from the previous generations. The fingerprint reader appears to be moved to the top.

One new notable feature is that is features an "HP Imagepad" which I can only guess is a secondary screen on the touchpad.

At any rate, here are the images and screenshots in case it gets removed.

These will come out next month

Really liking the 13”, eSIM support and insane battery life thanks to the 1 watt display (rated at 400 nits). Comes with the stylus with it too and has cool features like angled I/O slots, webcam kill switch and better sound and cooling.

So far, this is my favourite Whisky Lake laptop (was Lenovo S730 before), I’ll see what Apple bring to the table next week - I’ll decide between the HP and the new MacBook Air.

Thanks, that's tempting. 16gb and 512mb nvme is $1869.99. I might wait closer to Black Friday and see if it drops and also if any RTX systems come out.

I'm so glad I saw this! I think... My "older" model arrived 3+ weeks ago from HP.com (return policy: 30 days after ship date). I haven't had a chance to set it up so didn't try it out at all. Don't like being the guinea pig but I couldn't resist getting the new one. I started the return process for the old one (ch011nr) and ordered the newer model (df0068nr). I hope the new design is an improvement and won't come with a bunch of issues as it cost me $283.40 more. I wanted to get the lowest specs because I like to max out the SSD and RAM on my own, but they don't let you customize this model. So it's good it comes with the lower 256GB SSD, but it also comes with 16GB 2400 RAM which I'm sure jacks up the price. I was anticipating a delay in shipment, but it looks like they'll be shipping it out right away.

As the video points out, the new design has rounded edges and they repositioned the fingerprint scanner near the keyboard (no longer on the side). They also moved the power button and the TB3 port to the back corners. The older model didn't let you change the WiFi Card (soldered on). Not sure about this model but it seems like there's been a wifi card upgrade to Intel 9560 (BT 5.0 vs 4.2 on the older model). Not sure if this is a reliable WiFi card. The processor is a little faster: 8565U up to 4.6GHz vs the 8550U 4GHz. The full size SD card slot was replaced with a micro SD card slot. The specs comparison says, for the new model: "2 USB 3.1 Type-C Gen 2 Thunderbolt 3 (Data Transfer up to 40Gb/s)"; for the old model it says "1 Thunderbolt 3 (Data Transfer up to 40Gb/s); 1 USB 3.1 Type-C Gen 1 (Data Transfer up to 5Gb/s)". I don't think there's a change here, but I really hope they didn't split the TB3 bandwidth???

I went with the i7-8565U / MX150 version but of course there's also the i7-8750H / GTX 1050Ti version. I'm all about more battery life and don't play any games. And the " i7-8565U is 67% more energy efficient" as it runs at 15W vs 45W. There's no Vega GPU version right now.
The 8750H version is customizable. I had no option but to go with the new "Poseidon Blue" color, but for the 8750H version let's you go with the older, classic "Dark Ash Silver" colorway (+$10 for blue option).

If the RAM is soldered on and no longer upgradeable I'm going to cry.

The Kabylake models will have an integrated WiFi controller on the chip itself, so it’ll be better than anything to date.

Nice! It says the 8565U is Whiskey Lake, but the same applies to this chip. "integrated gigabit Wi-Fi support. Intel promises that this should result in dramatically faster internet speeds"

HP.com now has free Next Business Day shipping. I had to cancel and reorder. I chatted with a customer service rep and she confirmed that the laptop will be shipped as soon as the order is processed. It will ship on Monday and I'll have it by Tuesday (today's Sat.). So it looks HP.com is releasing this new model a little earlier than what the reviews say.

Sorry I meant WhiskeyLake :). Kabylake don’t have them.

Arrived a couple days ago! I tried to make an unboxing, first-look, and comparison video but failed miserably. I shot footage with my webcam for the first time and learned Shotcut for the editing but it keeps crashing. I think it's because my old laptop is dying.

I really like the new design. The silver on Poseidon Blue is so much better looking than the rose gold on Dark Ash Silver. The facaded corners and pointed edges makes the laptop look a lot sleeker. Can't say much about the performance because I haven't done anything on it. But the TB3 doc seems to be working and charging the laptop. Hopefully going with the new model wasn't a mistake.

Anyway, I want to go ahead with upgrading the SSD and RAM but the Service Manual (and Drivers) aren't posted on the HP support site. I called Spectre support and they told me it'll be up in 24-48hrs per my request, but they lied. I guess I'm going to rely on the service manual and youtube clips for taking apart the older model. Any advice?

The TB3 dock situation is a little more complicated than I thought. I'm looking for a TB3 dock that will both power my laptop fully (90W) and support my 4K monitor @ 60Hz and peripherals. The 90W power delivery is important for the laptop to perform to it's full capabilities. Also, less than 90W will charge the laptop slower. Note: 90W is for the less powerful version of the Spectre (8565U processor, MX150 GPU). There's a more powerful version of this laptop that requires 135W (8750H, 1050Ti (Max-Q) gpu). There are some 85W power delivery TB3 docks out there. I've tried the CalDigit TS3Plus but it's incompatible with my Spectre unless you use it with the power adapter plugged into your laptop. It's unusable if you're on battery. If you plan to use the dock with your laptop powered by your power adapter (i.e. not rely on the dock for power) then the TS3Plus seems like a good choice. It gets really good reviews. One of the reviews on amazon says it works fine with his/her Spectre (not this version) and that he gets power delivery. I'm gonna try calling CalDigit support to see if they can get it to work. Please, let me know if you end up trying other TB3 docks with high power delivery.

I elaborate on TB3 docks for a person looking to get a TB3 dock for the more powerful version of this laptop that requires 135W of power, bottom of this post:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...65u-cpu-mx150-gpu.825683/page-2#post-10821331

Also, If you find a TB3 dock that provides over 90W of power, please let me know. The only dock that I know of that provides >90W of power is the Dell TB16 dock which is only supposed to be for certain Dell laptops. It's supposed to provide up to 130W to Dell laptops and someone said up to 100W to non-dell laptops. This is the dock that I was talking in the previous post you quoted me on. But when I made that post I didn't realize that my TB16 was broken (only the power delivery was working). Dell is sending me a replacement. If you're thinking about using this dock for your Spectre I have to say that Dell says to only use the dock with Dell laptops. Also, there's a chance that this dock broke my XPS 9550 (both the dock and my laptop broke at the same time). As you can see it's not ideal so if you try the TB16 dock, DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK. I'm gonna try it out. If you have the more powerful version of the Spectre that requires 135W I see no reason to use this TB16 dock since you won't get enough power anyway. It seems to power my HP Spectre fine but I can't comment on the long term use.

I'm still investigating if the Dell TB16 will work with my version of the Spectre (9565U, MX150). You can follow in this thread:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/dock-for-9550.816223/page-3

Someone said it worked fine for his Spectre, both to power it and run his monitor/peripherals, but he only tried the setup for 1 day.

Thank you very much for your detailed explanations.

In the meantime I had a phone call with a German HP supporter.
He confirmed once again that there is only ONE original HP device which is approved for the Spectre series, unfortunately without the possibility to load the device.
HP Spectre USB-C Travel Dock (2SR85AA)

I will probably make the compromise and get the docking solution released by HP and realize the charging with a separate power supply.

Best Buy has the MX150 version in stock now. For day 20 on their 20 days of door busters they show an HP laptop for sale. No idea which.

    Hi all

Might be of interest, some pictures of the inside of the Intel H / Nvidia GTX notebook. RAM is unfortunatelly soldered.
