Hello. I was vacuuming the house yesterday and I accidentally caught my husbands brand new laptops AC adapter cable in the vacuum cleaner and it tore off the black part of the cable close to where the head goes into the laptop. It now has electrical tape holding it together but I was wondering if it’s unsafe to use like this? I don’t want any surprise fires. It appears to still charge the laptop fine so I guess the inside cables didn’t get damaged? I tried finding a replacement ac adapter online but can’t seem to find the exact same one. Thanks

Hi, and sorry to hear about your little accident! If the insulation around the individual wires is intact, and the USB-C connector is still attached firmly, it should be safe. You can upload a photo of the damaged end if you want us to have a closer look. I must agree that the expense of a new charger is worth it for the peace of mind along with the cosmetic aspect though. Oddly enough, HP doesn't sell the exact model, but the US model's part number is 860066-001 and can be had through eBay among other places.

EU plug, but you can use your old one (detachable): http://www.replacement-laptop-battery.info/hp-860066-001-laptop-ac-adapter-62442.html
Best of luck!
