Keep in mind that gpedit is just a gui registry editor. Anything you do in gpedit can be done in regedit.

I have come across another small issue since upgrading to Windows 10 (note, it may have been present in Win 8.1 too, but I don't remember it occurring).

When I turn on or restart the computer with the keyboard folded over, the ClickPad is not correctly disabled, so the mouse cursor will move if I hold the tablet with my hand in the wrong place. Obviously this is not desired behaviour.

My PC just 'upgraded' the Synaptics driver through Windows Update, though it was the exact same version (19.0.12.95) that was installed. This did not fix the issue with settings being lost, unfortunately. This non-disabling of the ClickPad was present before the 'upgrade' too.

Can anyone replicate this issue, or is it just me?

Edit: So after waking the PC up from sleep, it took 5 or 6 flips of the keyboard (and waiting a good 5-10 seconds after each flip) before it finally realised and turned off the ClickPad. Does it sound more like the sensor is not responding? Each time, the keyboard was correctly disabled...

Just tried another flip while typing this post, and it didn't disable the mouse. Another two tries and it did. This is annoying!

I should probably also note that the BIOS updated to version F.22 through HP Support Assistant this morning, which is supposed to help with the computer responding to keyboard flips. Seems like it might have had the opposite effect.

Sorry about the super long post, thanks for reading!

Further to my above post, another issue, which most likely relates to the problems with sound discussed previously, involves the system sound (the 'drrringgg' noise) when changing the volume level through the taskbar icon. Quite often (though not every time) the sound is extremely crackly and distorted. I can also hear a constant low frequency hum through the speakers now, which was not present before the Windows 10 upgrade.

I have noticed a similar issue with the sound crackling while playing back a video embedded in a PowerPoint presentation, but not while watching videos with Media Player Classic or listening to music in Winamp. It appears to be application dependent, which seems odd to me.

I have tried disabling the DTS enhancements; no difference. I also updated the Realtek Audio drivers to the latest version shown on the HP support site; no solution either. Any other ideas on what to try?

Are you using Windows 10 or 8.1 realtek drivers?

HP has Windows 10 specific drivers out now.

@Styptic FWIW I have the i7/8GB/256 model with W8.1...just put it into hibernation while in laptop mode -> folded it into tablet mode and then restarted. Keyboard and trackpad were both deactivated once the machine restarted. What you're describing does sound like a sensor issue.

I should note I'm on the older BIOS. About to update to F.22 now...will post back if anything changes!

EDIT: OK, hibernated and restarted in tablet mode a few times on F.22 and the keyboard/trackpad still behave as designed. Sorry I can't replicate the issue, at least not on 8.1

I have not been able to reproduce your problem Styptic, tablet mode worked just fine with regards to disabling touchpad and keyboard, restarting and sleeping in various modes. Its only the rotation that is somewhat glitchy on certain occasions. It might be worth letting the HP peeps look at your laptop just in case, or get a replacement?

I have experienced the crackling noise you mentioned but not to your extent though. I would also like to point out that the whole DTS control panel is buggy, it doesn't save settings when you restart. So if ever you disabled (uncheck) the enhancements it will revert back to its original enabled state when you restart BUT it will still remain unchecked, so you would need to check and uncheck them again to really disable them, well up until you restart then you'd have to do it again. Its weird and buggy, I've reached out to HP about this and the new drivers/software does not fix that issue.

    Hello,
I got my new HP Spectre x360 (8/256/i7/FHD/Signature Edition Canada) a couple of days ago and started noticing some buzzing sounds coming from the left air vents, closer to the left hinge. Someone described the sound online as "someone trying to communicate with you in morse code" and that's probably the most accurate description of this sound. It happens at irregular intervals and I only really notice it at late at night in a quiet room and can't seem to figure out what's causing it and it's driving me crazy. This HP forum
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware/Spectre-x360-Noise/td-p/5107394
discusses it but no one has come to a conclusion yet other than getting a replacement, but even then some people still experience the same issue. Is anyone here experiencing the same issue? I wouldn't want to return this laptop because it's pretty much perfect in every other way.

Still no fix.... Cmon HP :D

    @ ludopwm
I think you need to wait because it takes time to calculate the time for Windows 10.

Guys, I'll save you the trouble (if you haven't already) of reading all 72 pages of the thread: at some point HP eliminated the time estimate through a BIOS update. I saw a silly post somewhere (perhaps it was for a similar machine) by an HP CS rep who said something like,"Well, those estimates caused a lot of confusion for owners and our engineers couldn't get them to be consistent, so we decided to remove them. The % value is more reliable!"

The truth is that estimating remaining battery time is not all that hard from an engineering standpoint (assuming a reasonably well-behaved user) but HP took the easy way out. o_O

If it really bugs you, you can read back in the thread and find a bit of discussion about third-party battery apps.

How to I find out what speakers my new Spectre x360 has? Model number is 4101dx. Is there a way to check audio hardware name in windows 10 settings? 256/i7/8gb/FHD (hopefully Bang and Olfusen speakers)

Mine still shows time and %, but I also have a third party battery app called Battery Bar. It hasn't been able to calculate power consumption with any BIOS since F.04. I have stayed with F.04 because of the lack of complete battery info. That is probably why mine still shows both time and %.

    Good luck, Jim

Thanks you two! It is unpredictable and inconsistent on mine, but even when the mouse doesn't get disabled, the keyboard is correctly disabled. I'll probably try contacting HP, though they haven't been much help so far.

Are you referring to your previous question about speakers?

I'm not sure what you mean by hardware name... are you asking about a brand name (e.g. Beats, JBL etc...)? Pretty sure these are not a named brand. In Windows, device manager just reports them as speakers, I don't think it would show up in windows anywhere even if they were branded.

I've had wifi issues with my Spectre since I got it and it's left me so unsure about HP. In all honestly it's probably the Intel AC-7265 wireless card, but the fact HP has washed its hands of my complaint makes them no better.

The 5GHz internet is great, but if I leave the room the 2.4Ghz drops so quickly it's unusable in the parts of the house I usually work.

Yes Alkpit, you're not the only one (although I feel we are!)

I was told this could be down to my finger skin or how long I use the machine (poor excuse!). Mine looks worse than that on three keys.

So, someone managed to spill a little liquid soap, no more than 5-10ml, on my keyboard, and then tried to wash it off with a damp cloth = broken keyboard. After using it in tablet mode stood on the upside down keyboard for a few days, it still does not function, although nothing else appears to be broken.

So, having looked around, it's almost impossible to buy the keyboard spares online, even on ebay and the very few sites that do stock it seem to be pretty dodgy to say the least, so I have no choice but to send it to HP for a return that is not covered under warranty, which in Ireland I think is going to be an adventure, but we'll see.

So I spoke to HP chat support and I have to go through Best2Serve, who appear to be a HP Partner. I paid them €159, discounted from €179, probably because of who my employer is even if I'm logging it as a personal customer, and now I have to wait to see what happens next.

Although now Best2Serve have the money, they have told me that they will collect the laptop "In the next few days" but cannot tell me when this will be so I can be at home to give it to the courier. Has anyone else had experience with HP support and do they normally contact you in relation to returns?

This is ridiculous. Your finger skin? What are you, a crocodile? Such flaws on such an expensive machine are unacceptable. I like this laptop very much but I have encountered several flaws here and there, and it's a pity. I think now I may should have bought a mac.

I went back to our local store and checked the screen reflectiveness. The displayed HP machines with the touchscreens (some Pavilions with Full HD IPS) seemed like the most reflective I have seen. I have worked with glossy screen laptops since 2006 and never mind it because I solved it by raising the brightness and it never bothered me indoors at all. But those HPs really looked extremely reflective even indoors, I was pretty clearly seeing myself even with the full brightness. Retina MBP was far less reflective. Pity they didnt have the Spectre on display :( so I could see it myself.

Not many reviewers also state that but a few say the screen is very reflective, i.e.:

It's probably a matter of taste, but I didn't find the screen reflective at all. I didn't see that many complaints about it on this thread either, ubt it could be that many of us have a higher tolerance for it.

I had the Dell Venue 11 Pro and it was less reflective.
There arent many situations yet where it bothers me.

I write with the HP Chat tomorrow. I hope they can say something like they are working on a fix for Sound Bugs.

I am on my 4th Spectre now. First had black frozen pixel. 2nd had Sound Issue. 3rd had Wifi dropping. Now 4th has Sound issue again.

I love the laptop, but I wont exchange again. I will return if they cant find a solution to the sound problem.

You can see if it is Bang and Olufsen in the HP Support Software and look at the Hardware.

Will there be any good new Skylake Laptops coming up? New Surface maybe? Or that sweet Intel 2 in 1 from the latest conference?

    Anyone has any suggestions?

Hopefully the revision that came out last week addressed most if not all hardware issues with this machine. I'm loving everything about it so far expect for the weak speakers. Idk maybe it's DTS tweaking out or something else..

For the people that have upgraded from 8.1 to 10 on this model. Do you recommend it? Have you noticed a decrease in battery life or any other issues as of today? Any other preparations before hand? I have the message that I could install it but I'm hesitant. Thanks in advance.

Seems fine to me. Others have mentioned their distaste for Windows 10, but from a performance standpoint, I haven't noticed any negatives. My only recommendation is to be sure to turn off rotation lock, which on by default.

I'm also wondering about battery life. Yesterday I fully charged it to 100% for first time, I started watching some streaming videos for about 3 1/2 hours and the battery went down to 35%. Would you say this is normal for streaming videos on a chrome browser? Anything I could do to prolong stream viewing?

Yeah, I was surprised how little charge the battery held at first, given the reviews. After a couple of charges, it lasts as good as advertised.

From what I've read, you shouldn't drain to 0%. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but lithium Ion batteries work better with partial discarges.

Our house is on an older Asus (N16) running Shibby's Tomato at 2.4GHz...when I first brought home the X360 I strangely couldn't get throughput faster than 4Mbps, which was much slower than the ~60Mbps I normally see on my other laptops.

After an evening of tinkering with the router firmware, I discovered an advanced setting (802.11n preamble) that had been moved off its default setting. The moment I switched it back to the default value, the X360 throughput jumped to 100Mbps, pretty much throughout the house.

Not sure the same issue applies in your case, but the moral of the story for me was: play quite a bit with your router and see if the 7265 prefers a setting that the other machines in your house are indifferent to. You might also channel hunt a bit.

    Hi all,

The battery life of my Spectre improved after some battery cycles. However, I still have a problem: it drains battery in hibernate mode. After 8 hours, it will lose around 10% of battery. I have tested for 2 weeks, and the result is more or less consistent. This happened when it had win 8.1, and also now with Win 10.

I don't know what is happening. First I disabled the connected standby option in the registry, but results are the same.

I thought that it could be that the powered USB ports are sending electricity to USB thumb drives or mouse USB radio connectors, but I am not sure. Disconnecting all USB devices doesn't seem to change the result, and it is also not practical. I disabled a setting in the power options related to "USB selective suspende setting", and the "fast start up" option as well.

If this continues I will have to contact HP. Anyone else experienced this problem?

Other problems I wasn't expecting in an expensive machine like this:
-the stupid sound bug disappeared after I disabled the DTS sound enhancements option.
    - Bluetooth connection to a speaker is terrible (lots of cuts in the transmission), specially in "tablet mode" in windows 10.
    - I have mini system hungs, specially using Edge browser. This post took forever to be written, the cursor freezes all the time.

So once in a while I hear a weird popping or snappy sound coming from my headphones when I'm watching videos. Is this the sound issue you guys are referring to? Now if there are drivers that will be released as a fix, would that hp help app alert me or should I manually look for the updated drivers? I've been clicking check for update everyday just to see whats new actually.
