Just like to let everyone know that HP/Compaq has happily spiked the price of their V2000Z model. All prices include the beloved (not) $50 mail-in-rebate.

    Pre-spike Base Price:
    HPShopping: $549
    APP Price: $507.26

    Current Base Price:
    HPShopping: $629
    APP: $588.26

There has not been any upgrade in the options for the model. I have only seen a RAM upgrade price decrease. Prices for the Intel-based V2000 remains unaffected. Feel free to speculate!

Obviously the price is related to the price of the chip to HP.

The $549 base price was acually the result of a $100 "instant savings" that was a special for about 2-3 weeks two weeks ago. The week after that went off, the price returned to $649 for about 5 days, and was dropped last weekend to $629, though I don't know why.

It's really nothing to be worried about, the $100 off will likely return soon (1-2 weeks) if $80 is that big a deal to you.

Also, I removed the duplicate thread her in HP...I'm sure it was an accident, but if not, please don't post the same thread twice in one forum.

lowlymarineis right. They keep recycling the that $100 instant savings. So, it will return in couple of weeks. That is the case with most HP deals, atleast for V2000 and V2000z series.
