I would like to bring something to the attention current HP PC owners as well as people who are considering buying a HP PC. I did A LOT of research before i bought my HP DV4t and it was one of the few laptops that had everything that I NEED for my busniess. Or so I thought.. The ich9m chipset IS CAPABLE of AHCI, SATA AND IDE but HP has decided that we only need AHCI. Unfortunately, the software i use requires that i disable AHCI or it will not detect my external hardware. The BIOS on this $1,000 computer is absolutely worthless. My Acer NETBOOK that cost me $199.99 has better BIOS support. At this point I dumped the DV4T's bios to and extracted the setup.txt file only to find that HP has HIDDEN the options from me. HP must think that we are not smart enough to make decisions about OUR own hardware and feel they need "protect" us by hiding the options we paid for![]()
Here is a copy of my setup.txt file as proof of this:![]()
Code:
Setup.txt | | My setup
-------------------------------------------------
0x39 | AHCI / Native IDE | 0x39

Mod the BIOS, looks like you are close to it

... or look at the business class HP notebooks. They do offer more BIOS settings.

I agree, I wish they would stop hiding these features. Or at least reveal to the public a key combo that could unlock the advanced options in BIOS.
IDE mode would be quite useful when it comes to flashing SSD firmware. -

If you have the time, you could drop a few pointers in this thread:
