I wanted to run Win 8 on my dv6t-7000qe but noticed it was really screwed up and read that I'd need to update the BIOS on the machine for Win 8 to run properly (keyboard was completely unresponsive, which included USB keyboards too, once Windows was done loading up drivers. Couldn't get into Safe Mode due to Win 8 defaulting to selective startup).
I downloaded the official BIOS update from the drivers page and went about installing the update. Windows begins to restart and the screen goes black and nothing happens. I let it sit there for 30 minutes to see if anything else happened as I know the last thing you want to do during a BIOS update is power off the machine. 30 minutes goes by and nothing so I restarted and of course the damned thing is bricked. I call HP support and first they say that I'd have to pay for the repair as it's a user error but after bringing up the fact that I let it sit there for half an hour at just a black screen, they understood it to be a bad update/bad BIOS chip so they'd cover repair. I paid $15 for expedited repair and received my laptop within 12 days.
I start using the laptop and notice that it's not charging my battery even though the battery status in Windows said Plugged In, Charging. Even with the machine shutoff and the adapter plugged in, the battery would not charge. Orange charging indicator light was also lit.

Call HP again and spend the next 3+ hours going through their routine (install HP Tools, BIOS update, run battery check in BIOS and HP Assistant program, etc) and nothing works. I explained to them that doing anything within Windows is pointless, in regards to the battery charging, as this is purely a hardware problem. If the machine isn't charging when shutoff, something they did to my machine in the previous repair broke something else. Supervisor gets on and says the battery controller is bad and that I need to send my machine back but include the battery and charger this time. I get free expedited repair and got my laptop back in today after around 12 days.
After sending in my laptop to HP for the second time, I received it even worse shape.
-Still won't charge batteries (entire reason for sending it in the second time)
-Speaker wiring is completely screwed up (my sub is playing mids and highs [not lows like it's supposed to] while the left channel is connected to 1 speaker and the right channel connected to 3 speakers and the sub)
-Sent me back the wrong battery (I sent in a 9 cell and they sent me back a 6 cell)
-Sent me back my charger without the wall adapter
-Scratched the metal lcd cover and speaker grill
-Gave me some Toshiba HDD instead of the WD Blue HDD I sent in.
They are covering expedited shipping, again, and my laptop which has now been out of service for over 3 weeks is still in broken condition.
At this point, what recourse do I have? This is my work/personal laptop and I can't just keep shipping my laptop and parts to them back and forth while I have work to do. I do software development and my setup requires me to have 2 VM's and a Development Environment running at all times and I don't really have Core-i7 laptops w/ 8GB RAM sitting around.

Maybe if there is a HP repair center in your city I would bring my laptop in there and explain to them. Hopefully they can fix the laptop faster. Or better yet complain to your credit card company and maybe you can refund your laptop back to HP?
HP Tech Support has failed me consistently and my laptop is still broken
