What is the deal with the HP 2533t?

Could I wipe the software, flash the bios, upgrade the cpu, and HDD and use as a regular laptop?

The price has plummeted to less than $200 at times on eBay, I'm particularly interested in that elitebook chassis and the 12.1" WXGA display. I want to know how different it is physically from the 2530P.

Is it possible to change the hardware, and turn a 2533t into a 2530P?

The only usefulness I could see in a $200 2533T would be as a parts unit for a 2530P. It *might* share the same optical drive, LCD (minus webcam / night light) and maybe the chassis. Worth comparing the two at the HP Media Services Library

The big problem will be the systemboard's cpu/chipset are different. As 2530P systemboards aren't cheap you're likely better off just buying one of the refurbs below to start off with.

    12.1" US$581 HP 2530P U9300-1.2 2GB 80GB-1.8" DVD
    12.1" US$605 HP 2530P L9300-1.6 3GB 160GB-2.5" *refurb* 1.7/6cell
    12.1" US$704 HP 2530P L9400-1.86 3GB 160GB-1.8" DVD *refurb* 1.7/6cell

I see. You're right the cost would be higher than a refurb 2530P itself minus the webcam, night light, and pointing stick. But how about an older system board? with the 2533t chassis?

what were they thinking? I've been reading up on this 2533t and their marketing people did not expect it to do well, so what was the point?

EDIT: Never mind, a 2510p SYSTEM BOARD W/PROC is $485 at the least.
