I am having a problem with my HP dv9000. Last week the hp total care advisor show poor battery. When I ran the hp test for it, it said to replace the battery and gave the warranty code. Anyways, I purchased a new battery and received it yesterday. As soon as the total care advisor came up again, it still said that it was a poor battery and needed to be replaced.
I thought that it may be a software issue with the hp total care advisor, so I ran a system restore back to factory defaults and reinstalled all of the updates, SP1, and it still shows the same thing. Is it possible that I got a bad replacement battery? The battery I was replacing was just 14 months old as well.

If you can still return the battery, DO IT.
THEN you ask HP what is going on. But first, make sure you return the battery. I suggest this so that you don't get stuck with two good batteries. -
If the your computer is still under warranty you can get hp to give you a new battery instead of having to buy a new one. Return the new one lieke Herrkaputt sugested and try to get hp to replace the battery.

Unfortunately it is no longer under warranty. I'm wondering if this may have something to do with the faulty video card that would cause the laptop to overheat and make a mess of the monitor. I sent it in for repair for this issue last August. I know many here have had that particular issue with similar models, although hp did not extend the warranty on many of models bit by that bug.

Lithium batteries have a shelf life of 2 years it looks like you got an old battery you should be able to return it.

You cannot send the same part for replacement for the second time. You will have to bench the whole laptop along with the defective battery.

Try doing a full discharge until the system hibernates?
How much battery life do you get?
