    Hi all,

I own a HP TouchSmart tx2 with the following configuration:

    Processor: AMD Turion X2 Dual-Core Mobile RM-74 2.20 GHz
    Internal Memory: 4 GB
Windows 7 64 bit Operating System

What I need to know is the largest CPU that could be used with this laptop. Also would you recommend upgrading to 8GB memory?

I use my laptop approx 12 hours per day as the internet is my job hence the need for speed and I really do not want to buy another laptop.

    All answers and suggestions appreciated.

The fastest Turion Ultra CPU (not the new Turion II series) that you can find will work. Flash in the latest BIOS first, just to be safe. I would not expect a dramatic improvement though. Finding high-end Turion chips for sale to end users can be tough.

Upgrading to 8GB RAM is more likely to be noticeable and won't void your warranty. Win7 will use it as a really big hard drive cache if nothing else.

The ZM86/87 should be the fastest one possible for the tx2. But as brian mentioned that only gets you ~200MHz more and 2MB L2 cache instead of 1MB, not much of an upgrade. Better to spend on possibly a SSD. 8GB RAM for internet use is a bit of an overkill. If you are using the stock HP install of Win 7 a clean install along with an SSD + anything >=4GB RAM should yield better performance gains than upgrading the cpu.
