Hi, i've been spending the last week emailing/phoning HP UK to try to buy a blu-ray optical drive for my HDX laptop.

Now that HDDVD has withdrawn i want to replace my drive with a blu-ray unit.

Now, i know that people in the US can order one of these drives when they order the laptop, but i would like HP to sell me one.

But this has proven impossible because "we do not sell those types of drives", "it is not shown on my system" or "an external drive will be available later in the year"

On the US HP site a blu-ray drive is clearly shown as an option when buying, and also i've downloaded the pdf Maintenance and service guide and listed is the drive and the part number is - 462585-001, i've quoted this number in my correspondence with HP, but they say that "there part numbers are different"

This is all Rubbish, it's like HP doesn't want my money, so can anyone help me??, partically you lot in the states, (i live in the UK)

Because the drive is so new i doubt i can buy it from PC outlets here like PC world etc, and i've looked on ebay US and UK.

There must be a way to get hold of one of these !!!!!

Why HP UK hasn't taken online customising system is something i cannot figure out. UK is always behind US or asian market alright, but even Dell UK offers that nowadays...

I know Internal BD writers are available at www.play.com from 150 to 200 GBP, but can it be used externally with HP laptop?

Hi mate, yeah i know you can get desktop PC blu-ray drives, and i could get it to work externally with my HDX, but i really would like an internal laptop drive, like people in the US can enjoy.

Maybe if one of you guys in the states can sweet talk HP to send you one i can pay paypal ??, then ship it to me in the UK ??

After alot of thinking about this, i've decided not to change the optical drive in my HDX at the mo, instead i've decided to by a stand alone blu-ray player which connects direct to my TV.

I'll think about replacing the drive next year or when they get more popular.
